Vizio Tablet VTAB1008

An affordable new tablet ?

As you’ve already seen, the afflux of tablets present everywhere these days can be overwhelming, because customers find it very hard to find that one with a good price and which will work for them according to their needs. Vizio praise themselves on producing a tablet that stands out from the crowd thanks to its universal remote control capability, size and interface. But all of these assets come with a price: the VTAB1008 won’t earn points by being the prettiest, thinnest or fastest product, but that doesn’t mean you should cast it aside completely. The review you’ll read after this will provide you with more details.

8 inch display diagonal

When placed side by side with other tablets, you’ll notice that the Vizio VTAB1008 isn’t the most beautiful one ever. The size of its screen, 8″, is an important factor to consider, but the weight and thickness make it look like something made many years ago. When taking these things aside, the tablet we tested for this review was very solid. The matte plastic on the back resisted fingerprints without breaking a sweat. Here’s something fun about this gadget: when we turned it for portrait or landscape orientation we saw how the back, home and menu keys jumped by magic from one bezel to the next; this meant that the controls enumerated above were always placed under the display. 2 of the 3 speakers are situated on the edges of this device activated depending on how we held the tablet and this was of great help, because it kept the sound from being downed whenever we used the product this way and that. A lot of apps available

The display of VTAB1008 has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. When we tested the tablet we noticed that the maximum brightness levels were lacking; moreover, viewing angles were generally poor.
In the features department, the VTAB1008 tablet has many apps, including e-mail, browser, Google mobile (with Google Navigation, Gmail, Talk etc.), YouTube and many others which will be launched in the near future. If you’re into reading books, this tablet is preinstalled with Barnes & Noble free Nook eReader. Then there’s a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi support.

Medium battery life

The most fascinating option is the remote control application working with an integrated IR blaster; these two enable the tablet to be used as a universal remote control which isn’t quite the ultimate one, but it does deliver good performance. Connectivity-wise there are the following: a microSD card slot, microHDMI video output and microUSB output.
Memory is made of 4GB of internal storage which we wished was more, since most of it is used for the system software.
Android 2.3 is the operating system used here. We didn’t experience lagging, so we won’t discuss the subject any further.
The performance of the Vizio Tablet VTAB1008 was so and so. For starters, the speed of the system was kind of slow when we wanted to scroll Internet pages, open applications and the like. The battery made the tablet last for around 6 hours until recharging it.

Review conclusion

As final words of this review, the Vizio Tablet VTAB1008 is made desirable first of all due to its affordable price tag and unique features. But, beyond that, it’s a quite heavy device, doubled by disappointing viewing angles and poor speed. So that’s why it is perhaps best to look somewhere else if you really want to own a tablet.
