Vizio E320VP

A new LED-edgelit LCD TV of the market

Vizio has released a new TV on the market. Its name: E320VP. The device is an entry-level LED-edgelit LCD TV and the team at Vizio claims that it is “brilliant in color, rich in detail and deep in contrast – all in a razor thin design that is less than 1.34″ in profile”. Does the TV really perform that well? We tested it and here is what we have to say about it.

Very thin design

The latest Vizio E320VP is quite a looker with its sleek and stylish black bezel and stand made of plastic. With measurements such as 1.3″ x 30.3″ x 21.6″ and a weight of 6kg, the product is one of the slimmest and lightest TVs available today. The front sports a 32-inch LED Backlit screen; Vizio is the first manufacturer to bring the famous LED technology to LCD devices that are smaller than standard TVs. The product also features a 1.43″ thin profile and 100.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The latter spec was enough, when we review the TV, to produce, through dimensions and contrast, brighter whites along with good black levels. The latter were improved when compared to those on the device’s predecessors. Also, the dynamic contrast ratio provided beautiful and vibrant colors which radiated off the screen and offered great viewing experience; details were rich, contrast was deep and images were very sharp. Built-in ambient light sensor

The Vizio E320VP TV also boasts a built-in ambient light sensor; when we tested the device for this review, this feature did a great job of controlling fluctuations in the brightness and auto-adjust it so that the TV obtained the best picture possible. The rear of the gadget doesn’t house that many ports; the right side – weirdly enough – has manual control keys. On the downside, the stand didn’t come with the ability to swivel. The remote control was difficult to hold and use because of the spread out and rather small keys. In the box which the device came with we also discovered a power cable, a quick setup guide and a user’s manual.
Viewing angles were wide, although the vertical ones were very tiny, so we couldn’t view the entire screen even when lighting conditions were good.
Peak brightness was superb: the TV gave 308.05 cd/m2 in our tests, which meant that we could easily view content in a well-lit room. Uniformity was good, but color temperature didn’t impress us.

Good overall performance

Whenever we watched a fast-paced action movie, a sports program or played a game, the TV experienced artifacts, blurs and stair-stepping.
In the sound department, the Vizio E320VP boasts SRS TruSurround, TruVolume and a pair of speakers with 20 Watts of total output power. As usual, overall quality wasn’t that great. In the connectivity department, the device offered 2 HDMI, 1 Component video in, 1 cable/antenna port, 1 VGA, 1 USB, 1 headphone out jack, 1 digital audio out and 1 analog audio in.
The Vizio E320VP exceeds new Energy Star 4.1 Guidelines, which means that it doesn’t consume a lot of power like other standard TVs, the LED edge lights don’t use mercury and the device has Green Leaf certification.

Review conclusion

In conclusion, the new Vizio E320VP is an overall nice idea if you plan on buying a new LED LCD TV. The price is good and the TV is a good quality one.
