A new affordable 32 inch LCD TV
Vizio is one of the most popular TV manufacturers nowadays. They are known to offer a wide variety of options and features at different prices. The E0VL series, while not having LED backlight and Internet, does come with impressive specifications and very affordable price. They have recently launched a new TV, namely the Vizio E320VL. Does the device rise up to expectations? We tested it in our lab and here is our review.
Not impressive design
When it comes to design, the latest Vizio E320VL looks like a plasma TV. When compared to other Vizio products, this one doesn’t look that good with its cheap-looking black plastic and hard angles. The device measures 8.2 x 31.2 x 22.4 and weighs 9.84kg. Its front houses a 32″ Class (31.5 inch diagonal) LCD screen that comes with 1366 x 768 pixels native panel resolution, 100.000：1 dynamic contrast ratio, 60 Hz, 8ms response time and 500 cd/m2 brightness. The frame is black and the beveled bezel is glossy toward the screen and matte away from it, making the TV look like a stylized picture frame. The short stand doesn’t come with the possibility to rotate it.
The rear houses analog video inputs such as 1 component video and 1 composite video; there are also 2 HDMI, 1 RGB PC and many more ports which enable users to watch movies, look at photos and listen to their favorite music. On the left side sits 1 USB which helps play MP3, JPEG or MPEG formats directly. The remote control, when we tested the device for our review, was nice; it had well-differentiated buttons, but the ones around the cursor were easy to confuse. The remote control can also control up to three devices via infrared. The dynamic contrast ratio was enough for producing, through dimensions and contrast, brighter whites along with good black levels; the latter were improved when compared to those on the device’s predecessors. Also, this spec provided beautiful and vibrant colors which radiated off the screen and offered great viewing experience.
Digital ambient light sensor
The most interesting feature of the newest Vizio E320VL was the digital ambient light sensor. This option did a great job of controlling fluctuations in the brightness and auto-adjust it so that the product obtained the best picture.
The TV can be fitted anywhere in any angle thanks to the VESA wall mount. We had no problem when viewing content from whatever position.
In the overall performance department, the Vizio E320VL did a fairly decent job. Color quality was bad and there were no details whatsoever in highlighted areas; moreover, the motion performance was equally bad during our tests.
Weak contrast ratio
The device didn’t manage to deliver decent black levels – shadows in a bright scene contained far less detail and depth than the ones in a dark scene – and the contrast ratio was weak: 1130:1. On the bright side, peak brightness was good.
In terms of sound performance, the product boasts SRS TruSurround, TruVolume and a pair of speakers with 20 Watts of total output power (we very much liked the smart sound adjustment which kept commercials from getting too loud). For environmentally conscious people, the latest Vizio E320VL exceeds the current ENERGY STAR 4.1 by using 58% less electricity when compared to standard TVs; it is also energy efficient: estimated annual electricity use is 3.4 kWh per inch of screen size.
All in all, Vizio’s new E320VL TV is a nice device which can sit in any room and comes at a very affordable price.
