Vipre Antivirus 2011 review
A partial known antivirus from Vipre
Although it’s not as well-known as other security suites, Vipre – or Virus Intrusion Prevention Remediation Engine – promises to be one of the best ones today, in 2011. Does their latest antivirus rise up to expectations? We tested the software and we invite you to read our review in order to find out the answer.
Unlimited home site license option
First of all, the product has an unlimited home site license option, which means that users can run it on as many PCs or laptops as they want. The software is available for free download. When dealing with installation, the antivirus suite didn’t impress during our test. The process wasn’t as quick as other security software and we had to restart our laptop in order to finish it. On the bright side, it didn’t freeze our laptop. Once the Vipre Antivirus 2011 settled comfortably in our device, using it didn’t raise any problem whatsoever thanks to the very easy to navigate interface.
Better than previous version
Now on to some of the software’s features. The product sports some very useful ones, such as e-mail scanning, file eraser and history cleaning. The former Vipre AV did a very good job of protecting sent and received e-mails against dangerous files. The file eraser feature helped us remove sensitive files from our laptop for good, while the history cleaning option took care of us when using the Internet by hiding our tracks. On the downside, the antivirus we’re reviewing today didn’t come with password-protected settings or built-in silent gamer mode like other security suites.
Protection against Trojans and keyloggers
As for overall performance, the latest Vipre Antivirus 2011 offers protection against Trojans, keyloggers, spyware, viruses, adware, malicious scripts, malware and rootkits. This was possible with the help of heuristic detection which included technologies such as Cobra, Genscan and MX-Virtualization; the latter helped the antivirus suite run files in a sterile Windows-like emulator and watch their behavior. The product even received the VB100 award, and that’s saying a lot about its performance.
Updates can be done manually or set to run automatically. By default, the suite updated itself every few hours.
In terms of customer support, the new Vipre Antivirus 2011 comes with a knowledgebase and in-program help files. Online support is provided via online chat and e-mail. If you have further questions you can contact their support by phone.
To sum it up this test and the review, the latest Vipre Antivirus 2011 is a really good security solution for your PC/laptop.
