Good specifications

First things first, this monitor comes with specifications such as: 27″ widescreen, 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution, 25.5″ x 17.9″ x 9.4 (with stand) / 25.5″ x 15.7″ x 2.6″ (without stand), 6.3 kg (with stand) / 5.9 kg (without stand), 16.7 million colors (6-bits + Hi FRC panel), 16:9 aspect ratio, 60.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 1200:1 static (typ), 3 ms ClearMotiv response time, 0.3114mm pixel pitch, RGB analog (75 ohms, 0.7/1.0 Vp-p), DVI-D (TMDS, 100ohms), Digital Fh: 15~82kHz, Fv: 50~75Hz, Analog Fh: 30~82kHz, Fv: 56~75Hz, VGA up to 1920 x 1080 non-interlaced, Power Mac up to 1920 x 1080 non-interlaced, 15-pin mini D-sub (VGA), 3-pin plug, AC 100-240V (universal) and 50/60Hz (auto switch), 53W-60W and VESA 100mm x 100mm wall mount.

ViewSonic-VA2702WThe monitor ships with a DVI-D cable, power cable, Quick Start Guide and ViewSonic Wizard CD (User Guide & drivers); it has a warranty of three years on parts, labor and backlight. The lamp in this device contains mercury, so it should be disposed of accordingly.

Very stylish design

The ViewSonic VA2702W monitor is very stylish: the color it comes in is black and it has a slim, thin bezel. It also features a large viewing area; this enhances productivity if you happen to work with spreadsheets or are used to work with various applications simultaneously. On the right of the monitor you’ll find six buttons, namely: the menu, brightness/down, contrast/up, control screen, power indicator and, finally, the power one. The VESA mount is on the back, as is the Kensington Lock. The Power In, DVI port and VGA port are placed under the screen on the back.

Few settings and presetups

There are several controls to choose from when you want to use the device: auto image adjust, contrast/brightness, input select (D-SUB, DVI), color adjust (sRGB, 9300K, 6500K), user color (R, G, B), information, manual image adjust (H/V position, horizontal size, fine tune, sharpness, dynamic contrast, aspect ratio, Eco-mode), setup menu (language, resolution notice, OSD position, OSD timeout, OSD background, auto power off) and memory recall.
During our test and review of the new ViewSonic VA2702W we discovered that the stand could tilt at 0-20º and this fact didn’t affect the viewing quality. What is more, the monitor could withstand temperatures of up to 40º and humidity levels of up to 10-90% without difficulty.

Good image in HD mode

The performance of the front-of-screen is improved with the help of the 60.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio; the latter also delivers darker black levels. The screen on this VA2702W makes watching HD content a great experience, because it doesn’t stretch or distort images. Aspect ratio adjustment gets rid of image distortion; it does that by maintaining correct image proportions for the widescreen and the native 4: content. The fast video response is delightful in the tests performed for this review and it greatly reduces blurs both when watching digital HD broadcasted videos and playing video demanding games. All of these offer viewers very good picture quality: images have crisp, bright, sharp and beautiful colors; also, text was very easy to read, even when we enlarged it to 100%, and it didn’t tire our eyes.

Eco-Mode included

Unfortunately, the VGA didn’t work for VA2702W, because the monitor is too big and as a result it displayed blurry images; instead, we used the DVI cable and everything went well. For the color adjust option we recommend the sRGB setting if you want sharper text.
The OptiSync digital/analog inputs are a real help in the connectivity department: they support DVI and VGA signals. This allows for both configuration flexibility and configuration.
The Eco-mode feature means that the monitor is able to reduce power consumption and it extends backlight life.

Review conclusions

Overall, the latest ViewSonic VA2702W is a good pick if you want to replace your old monitor: this device offers great performance at a good price.
