Velocity Micro Cruz T103 review

A cheap Android tablet PC

As is the case with the Velocity Micro T301, the company’s Micro Cruz T103 model is one of the cheapest tablets available on markets today. But is it a good alternative to other devices in its category? Or should you consider another manufacturer? We reviewed the product and here is what we think.

Good external design

At first look, the Velocity Micro T103 has a nice design; the body has clean, smart and refined lines and offers a slim and stylish feel with measurements such as 7.5″ x 4.75″x .6″ and a weight of 1.2kg. It was easy to hold this device and carry it around wherever we went. The display on this device is a 7″ touchscreen with full-color and a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Unlike its predecessors, the display on the Micro Cruz T103 wasn’t, during our test, that responsive; we had to pay attention what finger we used, because we almost always selected the wrong thing; other things we didn’t like about the touchscreen: the fact that it got dirty with fingerprints pretty quick and that it wasn’t immune to scratches. Good quality resolution

On the plus side, its resolution gave good quality viewing experience; we could read eBooks, watch movies, browse Internet sites and the like with great ease and, with the help of the integrated tilt-activated accelerometer we could flip the display of the page from landscape, portrait and vice versa whenever we turned the laptop. Navigation was very easy to perform, so beginners have nothing to worry about when working with such a tablet for the very first time.
The Velocity T103 runs on the Android OS operating system. It performed really well when we tested the tablet for this review; we were especially pleased with its power, reliability and ease of use, as well as the possibility of quickly managing programs without any hassle.

No GPS and camera

In the hardware and memory department, this device was supposed to boast a 4GB and 8GB SD card which can be extended via both USB and SD card slots. What we got was one SD slot with two external cards. When we wanted to swap the cards we were obliged to close those apps that depend on the data offered by the cards; in order to safely do that we had to acquire a 3d party applications that could eliminate other apps.
In the features and specs department, the Velocity Micro T103 was suspiciously empty; we found no GPS, no camera, Skype refused to work, there was no dock (even though the tablet came with a dock port). On the plus side, the device has a microphone. On the downside, the speakers were very disappointing. A great feature is the preinstalled Borders eBook library portal application; with its help we could choose from a number of 2 million eBooks.

10 hours battery life

The tablet has the ability to read various formats (be they for music or movie purposes), create playlists, support photos and read MP4 format for video. This all means that the product worked well as an MP3 player, we could watch a full-length pretty good-looking movie without carrying a DVD player with us and, lastly, we could create photo galleries and share them with loved ones.
The Velocity T103 tablet PC let us easily connect to the Internet with 802.11n Wi-Fi and full browser support. The tablet sports a replaceable lithium-ion battery; during our test it provided up to 10 hours of life on a single charge. And, whenever we didn’t know how to do something, we simply consulted the user’s guide.

Review conclusion

All in all the review conclusion is that the Velocity Micro Cruz T103 might not be one of the best tablets out there, but it’s definitely not one of the worst.
