A 13-inch notebook under 600 euros
The Toshiba Satellite T230 is an ultra mobile laptop with a 13.3-inch screen, a Pentium processor U5400 with 3GB memory and a 320GB disk. It weighs less than 1.8 kg and is very easy to transport.
This Toshiba Satellite T230 model distinguishes itself by its light weight (less than 1.8 kg) and its thinness (from 2.27 to 3.42 mm). In addition, Toshiba claims that this notebook is able to run for eight hours, which makes it quite attractive gadget for travelers. The T230 has a 13.3 inch display (33.8 cm diagonal) and provides a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
It uses a ultra-low power processor called Pentium U5400, clocked at 1.2 GHz. It uses the same processor as the Core i3 and i5, but some functions (including the turbo boost and hyper-threading) do not exist. Note the presence of an Intel GMA circuit which provides signal for HD video decoding, with good results in tests.
Without USB 3.0 port
This notebook also features 3 GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive and has worked well in the tests performed for this review. The number of connectors is limited to only three USB 2.0 and without any USB 3.0 port. In contrast, Toshiba has provided an VGA and HDMI outputs in order to connect to external monitors, projectors or HDTVs. Wi-Fi is now in version, but it is surprising that the wired network interface is not Gigabit, as with the other Toshiba models. Finally, the VGA camera is associated with access to the PC via facial recognition.
This Toshiba Satellite T230 costs about 599 euros and is available in two configurations that differ only in colors: T230-132 uses the anthracite color and silver while the T230-131 comes in white and silver.
