Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170

A good laptop, but not for gamers

Reputed manufacturer Toshiba has a series called Qosmio. And a subgroup named X770. This line-up is made of desktop replacement laptops. The company thought long and hard and what became of that was the Qosmio X775-Q7170. Toshiba made it known that this product is one to belong in the entry-level category. A lot of things are still featured on this device. We’ll only give an example: the design. To find out what other elements were kept from previous models and what novelties this version has, keep an eye on our review. That we actually wrote in this laptop. Which we tested to be sure it is worthy of purchase.

Red backlight keyboard

The Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170 has a design which will immediately make you reminisce about past X770 models. And that implies a body made of polished plastic. There are some gray striations on its surface. But on the rear, where the cover is, there is metal. Red and shiny. And it continues on the top of the keyboard dock. We thought all of this was slightly in poor taste. But maybe that’s just us and we are much too snobby. We don’t think this laptop will succumb to damage; at least it remained unscathed when we played with it in a bit of a rough way.Toshiba-Qosmio-X775-Q7170

After we finished with the looks of the laptop, we opened the lid and peeked inside. The thing that first attract our eyes was the keyboard. Because of its large size. It is backlit, therefore it will make your life easier if you prefer to do your work at night with no lights on in your room. Its backlights are red. But they also light up the strip that is across the touchpad; also, 6 keys that sit above the keyboard.

17.3 inch display diagonal

The touchpad is large as well. Seems Toshiba went on a “build the largest keyboard and touchpad” spree 😛 But that’s OK, it’s not bothersome at all. In fact, we like to have more space than feel all cramped when writing our reviews. All the buttons on the keyboard were a pleasure to touch. Response from them was quick and accurate.

The screen of X775-Q7170 has the following dimension: 17.3″. It is a glossy one, so damn. But at least it does not cause disappointment in image quality. 1,600 x 900 pixels of resolution dominate it. Viewing angles are good and colors have the right touch of colors. Contrast is strong. All that is nice, but if you concentrate on images, they display a lot of individual pixels. That results in fuzzy content. That does not affect, however, the quality of videos. We watched some movies on DVD and we could not see a problem with the laptop playing them. Speakers and the headphone jack both delivered good quality of sound.

Intel i5-2450M processor

Games are another thing completely. Fat chance of ever playing demanding ones on this X775-Q7170.

The selection this laptop has of connectivity options is quite good. A memory card reader, 4 USB ports and several others are some of what we noticed. The full list of them under this test.

An Intel Core i5-2450M CPU gets to offer its pros. And in that job it receives great help from a 640GB hard-disk drive with 7,200rpm and 6GB of DDR3.

Review conclusion

The Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170 is no good for gamers. But it is a nice purchase nonetheless if you’re at your first laptop.
