Toshiba AT200

A new tablet PC on the market

Toshiba spoils tablet users and fans with its new Toshiba AT200, a serious competitor for the other tablets in the industry. This model is a threat even for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 and you’ll see later on the reason why. We’ve tested this model and here is our review.

Very thin and light

To begin with, this tablet is very thin and light, unlike most of the tablets on the market, it has a shiny front and a brushed metal back, being both elegant and solid in the same time.
Apparently, with a 10.1 inch screen and measuring only 7.7mm deep, the AT200 is the thinnest tablet ever, this being its most impressive feature. It even competes with the iPad 2, weighing only 558g in the WiFi version, the iPad 2 having 601g. As about the 3G version, it is said to weight with 30g more, but will still be light.
About the AT200 looks, the aforementioned brushed metal back gives the tablet a more industrial appearance, along with the squarish edges. However, we don’t see this detail to be an eliminatory one.Toshiba-AT200

32GB memory included

The Toshiba AT200 has a 10.1- inch screen with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, about which we could say it looks very bright. The back of the tablet hosts a 5-megapixel camera which is complemented by the 2-megapixel front camera. On the sides are lined up several ports, like a microHDMI port, perfect for connecting the display to the big screen in order to see movies, pictures or whatever you wish. These ports offer great advantages, as users will be able to manage their files.
It also has 32GB of on-board storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot, according to your needs.

Powered by Android Honeycomb

Toshiba AT200 is running Android Honeycomb, meaning that you’ll enjoy a blue holographic interface. Android Market is Available, so thousands of apps are available for you. It also offers Flash support in the web browser and multiple tabs opened, which are working fine in the test performed for this review. The Flash 10.3 will definitely be good news for those who like video watching. Along with the enhancements made in sound technology, the speakers’ quality improved significantly.
Behind all this, there is a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor and 640GB of RAM which makes it all possible. The tablet is very responsive, pages load quickly while moving around the UI is very fast also. We might as well say that it offers pretty much what an user would expect from it and nothing more.

Good battery life

It didn’t surprise us in any way and as much as this would seem like a good thing, we really expected something over the average. But under the circumstances, we should be happy that Toshiba AT200 didn’t disappoint in anything either.
The tablet features 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Accelerometer, Gyrometer, electric compass and ambient light sensor, all powered by a lasting battery that promises up to 8 hours of video playback.

Review conclusion

The Toshiba AT200 gave us a good performance and rose to our expectations. We also like the overall appearance and lightness and can’t wait to see how it will impress the public, in comparison the the iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It is as clear as a bell that Toshiba wanted to raise above these two, but in the end we think that they all stand at approximately the same level.
