An affordable 32 inch LCD TV
The popular and beloved Toshiba has unleashed a new TV on markets worldwide. The name of its latest device: Toshiba 32AV52R. But does it deliver the best quality? We took the TV for a spin and invite you to read our following test and review and find out the answer for yourselves.
Just 720p panel resolution
As with other Toshiba TVs, this new model is very appealing in terms of design. The product comes in the usual black color, which makes the product look stylish and elegant with its slimming tapered bezel and appealing front panel Horizon design gradation. The newest 32AV52R LCD TV boasts the following weight and measurements: 13.60kg and 2.6″ x 19″ x 15″. As expected, these two make the device one of the slimmest and lightest TVs available today. On the front of the device you’ll see a 31″5 High-Gloss Black HD CineSpeed LCD Display. The latter boasts 720p resolution, 1366×768 Native Resolution, 16:9 native aspect ratio, 500 cd/m2 brightness, 8ms response time and 14:9 enhanced interpolated aspect ratio.
DynaLight Dynamic Backlight technology
The front also houses 1Composite and 1Audio (RCA). The rear features 2 HDMI, 1 S-Video, 4 Audio (RCA) and 2 Composite inputs and ports. We were glad to see that the stand was solid, so we didn’t have to fear it breaking if we accidentally hit the desk the TV sat on; this makes the device a good choice for families with kids.
The display of the latest Toshiba 32AV52R comes with a technology called DynaLight Dynamic Backlight; this one uses advanced histogram image processing to monitor the brightness level of each video frame and then automatically adjusts the backlight intensity based on the image content. This feature analysis offers 256 levels of backlight control and is able to create dynamic contrast ratio that is 7-10 times that of the original panel contrast. All of this resulted in powerful picture with enhanced details, deep blacks and superb depth.
Medium response time
Although the product ships with 8ms response time, other TVs offer 5ms or 6ms, which mean they are faster than the one we’re reviewing today. The 500 cd/m2 peak brightness was a bit too much for our eyes, but fortunately we saw that we could adjust it and the contrast to whatever value we wanted and so we had a great viewing experience.
In the viewing angle department, the 32AV52R TV offers 176 degrees of tilting and swiveling. We had no problem with this feature.
In terms of connectivity, the TV boasts the following: 2 HDMI, 1 PC / VGA, 1 PC / VGA Audio, 1 S-Video, 1 Cable / Antenna, 2 Composite Audio and many more inputs, outputs and ports.
20 watts audio system
The product also comes with built-in ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuner made the latest Toshiba 32AV52R a great choice for watching movies, playing various games, watching over-the-air, digital cable-in-the-clear and off-air digital broadcasts as well as many other options.
Some of the modes boasted by the device: gaming mode, Native Mode and TheaterWide Modes. The sound performance was good thanks to the pair of speakers with a total speaker power of 20 Watts, Surround audio type and SAP/MTS Stereo.
The new Toshiba TV features 1 V-Chip and 1 remote control; the latter was very easy to use. The device is Energy Star compliant.
To sum it up the test performed for this review, the Toshiba 32AV52R delivers good performance and great image quality, all at an affordable price.
