Spybot Search and Destroy 2011 review
One of the best antispyware software
A lot of specialized sites have declared Spybot Search & Destroy 2011 the best free privacy software that detects and removes spyware. Their latest version, the Spybot Search & Destroy 2.0 promises to be an improvement from its predecessors. But is it really? We tested the product and here is our review.
The software is available for free download in the trial version. First of all we must say that installation went like a charm: we encountered no problems whatsoever thanks to the new option that preconfigured the software for a carefree setup. When finally opening the software we were welcomed by an interface that looks kind of similar to the one on Microsoft Outlook’s left-side Outlook bars. The program came with improvements such as various skins for customization wich works fine in our test.
There are several options coming with the Spybot Search & Destroy 2011. The Tools page include a Browser Helper Objects in our system and the Excludes page provided a very good list of Trojans, spyware, key loggers and many more; we saw that the latter also enables you to specify those items you want to keep. The SpySweeper feature did a very good of warning us that if we removed adware the ad-supported software that came with it might be disabled.
Very good effectiveness
As mentioned in the introduction to this review, the product did an excellent job of detecting and then removing spyware which tracked our surfing behavior and created a marketing profile that made sure it wasn’t sent to compilers and then sold to advertising companies. But there are some warnings should you encounter something like that: crashing of the browser and toolbars in IE that weren’t there before. For more information on what types of threat the latest Spybot 2011 removes you can head to the navigation bar and click Support, then Threats. Other than that, the product checked for system issues and history lists that recorded data we didn’t want kept in our PC. Another thing we liked: the software cleaned usage tracks so that people who shared our computer couldn’t see what we had worked on.
And now for some of the other improvements discovered for this review to the Spybot Search & Destroy 2011: Bancos.Santander Trojan + Win32.Allaple.ab ++ Win32.Artro + Win32.Muollo + Win32.Palevo + Win32.Ramnit.E ++ Win32.Recycle.crp + Win32.Swizzor.Gen + Win32.ZBot, Fraud.SecuritySW + Win32.Bredo.21 + Win32.FraudLoad.edt, experimental plug-in for Google Chrome, Spybot-S&D’s modules can now be directly opened from its tray icon, experimental on-access scanner and optional heuristic scans.
