Sony VPL-EX145

Sony-VPL-EX145

A new affordable projector

Sony VPL-EX145 is an ideal projector, a good deal in terms of quality/price which offers efficient services while spending less power than other projectors. It is well fitted with numerous features in order to deliver the desired picture quality faster and better. We’ve tested this projector and you can read our rating for this review.

Economic

The VPL-EX145 is a good acquisition no matter if you need it for school, business meetings or in an NGO association. As a matter of fact, due to the low power consumption and the quality of the service, it is a good device no matter where you want to use it.
First of all, our review item, VPL-EX145 is well proportioned so will not be a bother neither for storage nor for transportation. It is also light, but comparing it with other more expensive projectors it’s bigger. The compensation is righteous though, being a part of Sony’s E series of projectors it offers good performance, economy and also convenience.Sony-VPL-EX145

Bright and crisp image

For connectivity, it comes with inputs for VGA connection from a PC and not only, you can also connect it to DVD players, VCRs or game consoles. The image delivered by the 0.63 inch LCD imaging panels is uniform and smooth, in bright color. Because this projector doesn’t correct the color of a wall as newer projectors do, we were curious how the image is when it’s not projected on a screen. Surprisingly, the image is very bright and crisp even in daylight. We admit this is a good result for a low budget projector. To be more specific, this Sony VPL-EX145 projector is capable of 3,100 lumens of brightness with a contrast ratio of 4,000:1, 1,024 x 768 resolution images that can be rendered on screens up to 300 inches.

Power friendly

It also has a RJ-45 Ethernet jack, therefore it can be connected to a local network. The power supply is 100 to 240 volt 50/ 60Hz and it offers support for NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL-60 and SECAM video signals, while you can choose almost any language you like, out of the 20 languages if offers. So it’s ready for international environments as well.
As we were saying earlier, the new VPL-EX145 is a power friendly projector. Its Eco Menu has three operating modes, Low, Medium and High and can be accessed either on the projector keypad or with the remote control. The 210W high- pressure mercury lamp can provide in Low Mode a projected life of 6,000 hours while it is synchronized with the durable filter. And there is more. In case the projector is not used for 10 minutes, it shuts down, thanks to the Power Saving mode.

BrightEra technology

Among its features, we would like to mention some of the most important that came into notice into our test. First of all, the reason why the images delivered are so bright and crisp is because of the combination of inorganic LCD panels using Sony’s BrightEra technology with a 3LCD projection system. Moreover, the Sony VPL-EX145 benefits by a 12- bit 3D Gamma Correction circuitry which helps in delivering smoother gradations as well as richer gray scales.

Picture Freeze Function

The Picture Freeze Function is very useful during presentation. This function allows you to freeze the current image on the screen while you can search for other things in your PC, without the other being aware of it, or seeing your personal documents on the desktop.
Another feature worth to mention is what Sony calls “Off and Go”, which basically means that you can turn the projector off at the end of your presentation without going through the long process of “shut down”.

Review conclusion

The review and test conclusion is simple. The Sony VPL-EX145 is the fourth of Sony’s E series and comparing it to the VPL-EX175 we didn’t find many differences, the main one being the price. This model is the second most advanced of the series so if you want to pay less, this would be the best choice.
