A 13 inch notebook powered by LEDs

The team at Sony has released a new portable business-class laptop, called Sony VAIO VPCZ133GX/S. According to them, this is a device “Built tough for your business travel needs.” We have come to expect great products from Sony. Does their latest one rise up to the expectations of people everywhere? Find out the answer from our following test and review.

Solid State Hard Drive

The newest VPCZ133GX/S is, as usual, a very good-looking laptop. The body is made of multi-layered carbon-fiber and the keyboard is made of brushed aluminum. These two materials protect provide the device with protection against bumps and add rigidity; they also protect internal components. The VAIO VPCZ133GX/S also features a technology called solid state hard drive; this one offers solid storage solutions. The keyboard was LED backlit, meaning that we could also use the laptop at night; we also liked the fact that the spacing between the buttons offered an intuitive and comfortable typing experience.Sony-VAIO-VPCZ133GX-S

Intel Core i5-460M processor

The front of this new device comes with a 13.1-inch LED-backlit display that sports a resolution of 1600 x 900 and 16:9 aspect ratio. This translates into the possibility to watch movies in their intended aspect ratio and a wider workspace. In terms of memory and hard drive, the VPCZ133GX/S ships with the following specs: 4 GB of installed DDR3 RAM (1066 MHz) and 128 GB SATA solid state drive (SSD). The former can be extended to 8GB and the latter provides both faster boot-up and app launches. And, as mentioned in the beginning of our review, the solid state drive technology had no moving parts, so we were offered more durable storage solutions.
This new laptop uses a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5-460M dual-core processor. This spec boasts 3 MB L3 cache and 2.80 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology. With their help, the VPCZ133GX/S accelerated overall performance.

Ambient noise canceling technology

During our test, the Nvidia GeForce GT 330M graphics card provided the product with advanced 3D capabilities, smoothness and very good quality video playback. Things were further improved thanks to the Dynamic Hybrid Graphics system, which allowed us to set graphics performance to those values that could deliver the best in energy saving. There was no need to reboot the laptop.
When it came to sound performance, the integrated pair of stereo speakers came with something called Intel High Definition Audio. Everything went well. The Sony VPCZ133GX/S also offers an Active ambient noise canceling technology which did a very good job of cancelling ambient noise whenever we were in a café or on a plane.

Biometric fingerprint reader

The built-in motion eye webcam has an integrated mic and it comes with the possibility to track faces and have long-distance VoIP calls.
Sony’s latest product ships with Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000), Wireless-N Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. These three offer very fast connectivity to home and business networks, synchronization and communication with cell phones, printers and the possibility to listen to wireless music.
And now for something unique: this laptop comes with Biometric fingerprint reader. This feature made sure that our data was protected against unauthorized use. Access and authentication were possible via our fingerprints.

Good battery life

The VPCZ133GX/S can run for up to 7 hours thanks to its included standard capacity battery. The device has 1-year warranty and 1-year of toll-free telephone technical assistance (a 1-year international service plan is also available).
In the connectivity department, there are 1 HDMI port, 4 USB 2.0 ports, Secure Digital memory card slot, Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO slot and ExpressCard card slot.
Some of the included software: Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, Norton Internet Security 2010 (30-day trial) and VAIO Creativity Suite (including Media Gallery and Picture Motion Browser VAIO Edition).

Review conclusion

After the test performed for our review we can conclude that the new Sony VAIO VPCZ133GX/S is a good choice if you need a powerful 13 inch notebook with good battery life.
