Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro
A powerful Android phone
Sony Ericsson released on the market, to our delight, the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, a handset full of features, being able to convey to different tastes and needs. Well equipped, both software and hardware, Xperia Pro offers many possibilities, from business-like activities to ultimate entertainment. Moreover, if you are still into old fashioned keyboard usage, this phone satisfies this desire as well, coming with a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, with solid keys that will make themselves heard, when used. Let’s see the test performed for this review. 🙂
8 mega pixel autofocus camera
Referring to its specification, it is not much different from the Xperia Neo, the most noticeable difference being made by the keyboard, which Xperia Neo V lacks. Running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, it sports a 1 GHz single- core processor, a 3.7- inch 854×480 touch screen which uses Bravia graphics engine technology, an amazing 8 mega pixel autofocus camera with LED flash, which can record at 720p HD, another 2 megapixel front faced camera for self portraits, 320MB built-in accessible storage, 512MB of RAM, microSD card support, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 5.76 Mbps HSUPA, as well as Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS, all powered by a 1,500 mAh battery that will keep you enough time busy.
Face detection technology
The test and review of the camera led to good results, the 8- megapixel do their work properly but we noticed that colors lack that stunning brightness that other smart phones offer. Also, in video recording we saw that the contrast is not great, although the resolution made the video catch all that we wanted in good quality. Featuring geo tagging and face detection, it meets the requirements of most users, also thanks to the second, front facing VGA camera.
The island-like keyboard, its “hidden” Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro surprise, is easy to use and offers a nice touch. The surface of the keys is not slippery at all and you can type with confident speed, as you fingers won’t slip off. The keys are displayed on four rows and are equally sized, except the space bar which is a bit bigger.
LED-backlit LCD screen
The 3.7- inch screen is actually a LED- backlit LCD screen, performing very well. We didn’t notice anything disturbing the eye on this screen. The colors provided by Xperia Pro are bright and the responsiveness is as expected. It is on the other side quite prone to scratches, or at least it is not that sturdy as the screen used for HTC’s Desire Z, which uses a Gorilla Glass. So, you would have to think twice before you throw it in your bag among the other stuff, uncovered.
Even though we only used it for testing, we felt in the end like owning it.
OfficeSuite Pro included
It is loaded with many apps, so you can have easy access to Google Maps and Google Latitude, email and also allows document reading, with OfficeSuite Pro. The access to Android Market lets you get all the apps you need to personalize its capacity.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro comes available in black, silver and red, weighing only 142.0 gr. Its dimensions make you suspect there is something hidden there inside, but compared to other Android phones it doesn’t look heavier or thicker. The keyboard has a smooth slide and its position makes it spacious enough.
We didn’t find many minuses to the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro in the test performed for this review, being generally a good smartphone, so we would say it is a smart decision if you want to have one.
