A new stylish digital camera

The new digital camera from Sony, Cyber-Shot DSC-T110 is a solid 3.0 inch touch screen camera, capable of taking fine shots, be them normal or panoramic, while being easy to carry around and chic. It comes in various colors like black, silver, violet, red and of course, pink. Let’s see the test performed by our review team.

Touch screen LCD

Cyber-Shot DSC-T110 has a fancy rectangular body with very flat surfaces, as many of the physical buttons are now replaced by the touch screen. However, some main buttons are still present, on the top edge of the camera, like the power button, the shutter release and the zoom rocker. We don’t see the use of the power button though, as the camera has a front sliding shield which turns it on and off.
On the back of the camera, the touch screen LCD gives the impression of a mini TV, because the lack of the buttons. Relating to the screen, we have to mention a drawback it implies. DSC-T110 is shooting in full resolution, you won’t be able to see the shot on the full screen, it is displayed in a pillar boxed 2.5 inch window. Sony-Cyber-Shot-DSC-T110

Sweep Panorama technology

The screen has a 230K- dot resolution at a 16:9 aspect ratio, while the camera’s sensor is 4:3. Comparing Sony DSC-T110 camera to the Kodak EasyShare M580, it is weaker. The Kodak model mentioned offers a 4:3 3 inch 230K- dot display and images are shown on the full screen. In our opinion, this display trick will be a significant disappointment for many Sony lovers, as well as an important drawback.
On the other hand, the camera offers wide panoramic shots and group pictures or expansive landscapes will look great. It has a 25 to 100mm focal length and Sweep Panorama, so you can just hit the shutter and sweep around, because the camera will be continuously taking pictures, without rest.

Super HAD CCD sensor

We tried this feature out and we were very impressed by the result. It is not as good as the Canon PowerShot SD1400 which has a 4x 28 to 112 mm zoom, but it still performs very good.
The Sony DSC-T110 is based on the Sony Super HAD CCD image sensor with RGB color filter array, coupled to the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar – branded 4x optical zoom lens, details also shown on the front face, viewable when the sliding panel is down. The lens though has a slow aperture, varying from f/3.5 to f/6.3, which gives very poor quality in low light.
there are three methods for determining exposure, spot metering, center weighted of multi-pattern and 2.0EV of exposure compensation is available, in 1/3 EV steps.

Image stabilization

The tests showed that the Sony CyberShot DSC-T110 can control blurring, thanks to the Sony’s Optical SteadyShot image stabilization without changing the image quality.
The camera offers poor connectivity, but images and movies can be recorded on Secure Digital, SDHC or SDXC. The red-eye reduction is also available, thanks to the four- mode flash strobe. While using the automatic ISO sensitivity, flash range is stated as 0.5 to 2.3 meters at telephoto or 0.08 to 2.8 meters at wide angle. You can also set the self timer at two or ten seconds and include yourself in the photo. The tests performed for this review shows that the battery life was good.

Review conclusion

This Sony Cyber-Shot DSC T110 is a colorful and easy to use camera is the review conclusion. The touch UI is good enough for a camera, so you shouldn’t expect it to perform as well as a smartphone touch screen. It’s slim but powerful and also capable of recording up to 29 minutes per movie in 720p format.
