A 32 inch Full HD LED TV for Christmas

The Christmas holiday season is upon us and what could be a better gift than a TV? (OK, maybe a Samsung Galaxy S II or an HTC Wildfire S, but still, there are people left who prefer TVs over smartphones when it’s time to open present). Sony has the answer in the form of its Bravia KDL32EX523 released at the beginning of this year. Amazon.com and people who have already bought this product praise it as the next best thing. After testing it ourselves we wrote the review below.

1080p resolution

The Sony Bravia KDL32EX523 claims to offer customers never before seen Full HD 1080p picture quality, astounding sharpness and contrast, ease of connecting it to the user’s home network and other such pros. From what we saw, this black HDTV measured 1.7″ x 29.8″ x 19″, weighed 7 pounds and looked solid; it didn’t acquire cracks or anything of the kind when we dropped it during our analysis, so its build was solid. It managed to look good wherever we put it. As far as screen goes, the Bravia KDL32EX523 has a 32″ one featuring full HD with a native panel resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels along with Edge LED Backlight technology that are enough to assure the best of viewing experience: colors look out of this world, contrast and sharpness are remarkable and details in dark scenes are clearly visible. The backlight system also enabled the TV to look slimmer than others in its category. The great quality of images on this TV also had to do with the product’s X-Reality Engine that, combined with something called Intelligent Image Enhancer, totally improved contrast, texture, colors and outline.Sony-Bravia-KDL32EX523

LightSensor technology

As other devices before it, the one we’re reviewing here sports a technology bearing the name of LightSensor. Among its many qualities we shall name the ability to save energy and to customize picture brightness. How, you’ll ask. And we reply: by simply adjusting the brightness of an image after calculating how much light a room contains. The pre-installed Presence Sensor was another interesting feature of the KDL32EX523, thanks to the fact that it was another means of conserving energy by turning itself off when we were gone from the room.

All the menus were simple to use, thus navigation went fast and smoothly. We found it very nice that we could, during our tests, do stuff like adjusting the settings of a picture while at the same time watching a film or a TV show.

Internet streaming access

The time the Sony Bravia KDL32EX523 needed to start up was faster than on other HDTVs. 2 to 3 times faster, that is.

When it was time to check the connectivity and Internet streaming possibilities of this device, we payed extra attention to the performance and we weren’t disappointed. The product will get access to Skype anytime you need to check your friends’ activities, it boasts built-in Wi-Fi and various widgets and can stream your photos, music and the like from gadgets that are compatible with DLNA.

Media Remote application

A very important plus is that the Bravia KDL32EX523 works very well with devices that are Bravia Sync compatible, for instance Cyber-shot digital still cameras, Blu-ray Disc Players and so on. If you’re an iPhone user, this TV offers you the possibility of downloading a Media Remote application that is free of charge and can become a remote control sporting a full QWERTY keyboard.

Review conclusion

Sony’s Bravia KDL32EX523 model is more than a HDTV. It’s an attractive and powerful device full of compelling features and possibilities.
