Sony Bravia KDL-40HX701

A 40 inch LCD TV from Sony

Manufacturers at popular Sony have brought a new LCD TV on markets everywhere, namely the Sony Bravia KDL-40HX701. The company claims that its new TV is “Packed with innovative features” and “incorporates the latest in HDTV performance into a slim and stylish design.” One of the main differences between the HX701 series and the KDL40EX700 one is the edge lit LED screen on the latter, the fact that it can’t tilt backwards or forwards and that it doesn’t come with a seamless design. How does the new KDL-40HX701 perform? We tested the device and here is our review.

240Hz refresh rate

In terms of design, the latest Bravia KDL-40HX701 features a Monolithic seamless design – in comparison to the KDL40EX700, as we mentioned in the beginning of our text -, which means that the panel and bezel of the product are merged into one single panel. The color the TV comes in is the standard black; the body is stylish and slim with its 41″ x 13″ x 27″ and 22.67kg. The front houses a 55″ Bravia LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, Motionflow 240Hz refresh rate, 16:9 aspect ratio, 1080p native resolution and 160.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The resolution delivers great image quality thanks to a technology called Edge LED Backlight: everything looks sharp and crisp, even when playing a game or watching a fast-action movie. Full HD image

The Motionflow 120 technology allowed for both clarity and smooth motion detail by doing the following: it doubled the frame rate from 60 frames per second after which it applied Image Blur Reduction technology. The TV enabled us to experience full HD 1080p picture quality whenever we played a game or watched a movie. We especially liked the fact that the device’s included stand came with the ability to swivel and tilt. The remote control is an infrared one which felt very comfortable to hold.

Ambient Sensor technology

The KDL-40HX701 also sports the famous Ambient Sensor technology which did a great job of controlling fluctuations in the brightness and auto-adjust it so that the product obtained the best picture. Bravia Engine 3 fully digital video processor provided excellent colors and image detail, optimized contrast and color and, finally, reduced noise.
We had no problem viewing the display from whatever position. The device comes with a 178-degree horizontal viewing angle and a 178-degree vertical viewing angle.

Online networks access

In the connectivity department, the newest Sony Bravia KDL-40HX701 sports the following: 4 HDMI, 1 USB, 1 Composite, 1 PC, 1 headphone, 1 Ethernet and many more ports and inputs. It also boasts Wireless LAN Adapter Support via the USB port, DLNA Wireless and Bravia Internet Video. The latter helped us, when we tested the TV, instantly stream videos, movies and music from entertainment applications such as YouTube, Netflix and the like via an optional Wi-Fi dongle.

Good sound quality

Sound performance was just good, not really impressive, despite the Surround mode, S-FORCE Front Surround Sound effect and the 2 speakers with a total power of 20 Watts. The product consumed 172 Watts when on and 0.12 Watt when in standby/sleep mode.
The TV offers a 1-year warranty. In the box the device came in we discovered a user’s manual, AAA batteries and 1 power cable.

Review conclusion

All in all the review conclusion is that the latest Bravia KDL-40HX701 is a good option if you want a new TV.
