Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG100
A camcorder which can see far away
Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG100 is a camcorder with a vertical format, which allows it to be popular with left-handed people. It acts as two devices at the same time: a digital camera (with a resolution of up to 4 640 x 3 480 pixels) and a full HD camcorder (able to take movies at 1 920 x 1 080 pixels). In addition, the two functions (camera and camcorder) are easily accessible thanks to two separate keys.
The Xacti CG100 features a 5 x optical zoom with a zoom technology called “Double range”. It was developed by Sanyo and can receive a 12 x zoom. The 14.4 megapixel sensor uses a larger area to capture the image. According to Sanyo, this causes no loss of quality. Unlike the digital zoom, where intermediate pixels are created artificially. In the test performed for this review, results were good.
Mini-HDMI port for video
The Xacti VPC-CG100 camcorder has only 50 MB of internal memory to store some pictures. You must use an SD or an SDHC (up to 32GB). Or an SDXC (up to 2TB) memory card. However, the device weighs only 158 grams and it fits easily into a pocket. The camcorder is able to connect to the computer via a USB cable or directly to your TV, using a composite video or mini-HDMI cable. Too bad that Sanyo does not deliver any HDMI cable with the package.
In addition, the camera has a color display with a 16 / 9 format and a 2.7-inch screen (6.86 cm diagonal). It also comes with editing functions, summary video (thanks to the integrated software) and face detection. The new Xacti VPC-CG100 is available in three colors (black, red and white). Finally, Sanyo also offers the Xacti GC20, which costs only 199 euros. But that only has a 5x zoom and a 10.7 megapixel sensor.
