Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z5A
A heavily anticipated laptop
Hope you haven’t gotten tired of reading about what Samsung’s been up to lately, because our review today will talk about the company’s Series 7 Chronos 700Z5A, a laptop that’s expected to make big waves in today’s industry. The device is most likely one, if not the only one, of the best competitors of the MacBook Pro, due to the fact that, among other pros, specifications are the best in the brand and there are less pounds in its body than on the MacBook Pro. But enough with the talk, let’s find out how the laptop did in our tests.
We at blitzreview.com and the rest of the world have for a long time waited the coming of this Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z5A. And with a reason, because this device almost has it all: eye-candy looks, good performance and battery life, little weight and other attributes.
We’ll start our article by saying that the first thing you’ll notice about this laptop is it’s color: grey, not the standard black used by Samsung’s Series 9. The change of color is very welcome, since thanks to it the device doesn’t attract as many fingerprints as usual. The very thin bezel on the 15.4″ screen is made of aluminum, a very good touch. While you’ll see a metal keyboard, the area for resting your wrists features plastic material. The Chronos 700Z5A will resist bruises and such damages thanks to the well-built body.
By way of inputs and other options for the connectivity part, the laptop we tested to see whether it was good or bad displayed a sort of microHDMI port, an actual HDMI one, an Ethernet port, a jack for plugging headphones or a mic, 2 USB 3.0 ports, a DVD rewriter and 1 USB 2.0 port. Buyers also have Bluetooth 3.0. and Wi-Fi to play with.
The space provided by the laptop’s keyboard is plenty, even though the spaces between buttons are a bit too big. That aside, actual use of the product reviewed on this page felt good. And, if you’re one of those people who like to work at night, its keyboard is endowed with backlighting; when we checked it to see if it was working at full speed, the light sensor it incorporates gave its best at those times when our room turned only somewhat darker. Of course the product boasts a touchpad, a very efficient and responsive one at that.
15 inch display
The 15.4 inch display of the Samsung Chronos 700Z5A comes with a finish that’s matte and it makes images look bright and colorful; taking the laptop outside and looking at it under direct sunlight left us impressed, because we could still see everything clearly. Inside we saw no reflections of objects sitting close to the product’s display and the levels of black were astounding. Light bleed was out of the question as well. Watching a film where there were a lot of dark pictures didn’t take away from the performance of the screen, as we could see everything in very good details. But we have to signal a con here, and that has to do with viewing angles. The ones we experienced on the Chronos 700Z5A were truly not what we had in mind at the beginning.
Intel Core i7-2675QM processor
The processor utilized by Samsung’s latest laptop addition is a quad-core Intel Core i7-2675QM; it made the unit function at great speeds, especially if we think about its 8GB of internal memory. If you want to play games, go ahead, but be aware that the more demanding ones won’t go to well with this device. There’s a 750GB 7.200rpm hard drive and an 8GB SSD. Booting time took 19 seconds and standby resume time was 2.5 seconds. Using the laptop for different activities was possible for 8 hours after which we had to recharge the thing.
Our conclusion is as follows: the Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z5A didn’t strike us as being on the weak side. On the contrary. Performance will delight you, its specs too and its design will melt your heart away.
