Samsung Series 7 all-in-one (DP700A3B)
Just another desktop solution ?
The Samsung company is renowned for manufacturing best sellers, be they cellphones, cameras, TVs and other gadgets. They’re new on the market of all-in-one desktop devices. Series 7, as they dubbed their recent product, brings a breath of fresh air to such gadgets. With appealing exterior and user-friendly touch software and a good price, Samsung seem to have hit once more the jackpot, though there are voices who say that the lack of a Blu-ray drive might be its downfall sooner or later. Our tests and the review herewith will show that the DP700A3B is the most accessible all-in-one desktop solution today.
Starting with the most obvious thing, the design of the Samsung Series 7 will strike anybody who looks at it for the first time ever as being close to perfect. The sides of the DP700A3B’s body are lined with angular brushed aluminum which makes the gadget look super clean. The back of the case features uniformly aligned ports and the edge sports touch capacitive keys and a slot-loading optical drive. But, with all its clean aspect, the Series 7 all-in-one has some flaws which tend to show more easily on such a design; the optical drive interrupts the plane of the front panel with its protruding shape, so that the keyboard and mouse seem placed at an awkward angle. Fortunately the screen folded back a full 90 degrees, which somewhat helped wash away the imperfections, especially seeing that competitors don’t have that.
We tried using Google Maps when the device lay flat and it felt really nice, as if we were supervising military plans. But when we opened the media player or web pages, things weren’t quite so nice. And in order to fully play with it in a way that was advantageous we had to place it somewhere where it feels comfortable, like a coffee table or something like that.
The display of Samsung DP700A3B is touch responsive and it uses something known as SAW technology, or user surface acoustic wave in short; this feature tracked the movement of our fingers when we touched the screen, but it wasn’t 100% accurate. The Touch Launcher software environment is the most exciting option of the Series 7 all-in-one. It offers a general interface made for touch input and it offers applications with touch-responsive design, such as movie player file, picture viewer and all sorts of others.
2.7GHz Intel Core i5-2390T processor
A row of 7 touch capacitive keys make the device even more attractive; they perform interface and multimedia functions. These buttons don’t have the advantage of lighting up when touched, but no device is perfect.
The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, the 64-bit version. The memory contains 8GB and 1.33MHz DDR3 SDRAM and the processor is a 2.7GHz Intel Core i5-2390T. The graphics card is in no way discrete, there’s no Bu-ray drive and we only have a standard-definition DVD burner.
There was no lagging when we used the product. But this sure isn’t a device to use if you’re a fan if serious gaming.
As for the connectivity subject, the Series 7 all-in-one ships with USB 2.0 jacks, 1 USB 3.0 input, HDMI input and a pair of analog audio ports.
The gadget is Energy Star-compliant and its annual operating cost is somewhere around $17.17. the warranty certificate offers a period of 1 year for both labor and parts.
In the end of our test and review we’ll say that the Samsung Series 7 all-in-one DP700A3B is fun to use, is endowed with some interesting features and doesn’t cost so much.
