Samsung M580 Replenish
Just another entry level smartphone
A new smartphone is starring on the entry-level scene. Ladies and gentlemen, we present you Samsung M580 Replenish. This device is another one that was taken under the wing of Boost Mobile, the famous network. This happened because this phone is one of the cheapest ones featuring an Android operating system. More specifically the 2.3 Gingerbread. People who worry about harming the environment need not fret in the following seconds: this product has only recycled materials inside. The above review will give an inside scoop on the highs and lows.
Every gadget ever made had to look good to impress consumers into buying it. Of course not all companies followed this golden rule, but Samsung was, and still is, one of them. The M580 Replenish smartphone they added to the collection will make you do a double take at first: its looks are those of the BlackBerry. There’s the same small display awaiting your touch and the vertical QWERTY keyboard. Getting design similarities out of the way, this Samsung Replenish is a black with accents in silver device. That means elegance. The 4.8″ x 2.4″ x 0.5″ and 4.1 ounces mean slimness and lightness, two things that are highly appreciated. At least we didn’t feel tired holding the smartphone for our tests. The resolution might be a reason for disappointment. But, in our opinion, the size of the display wouldn’t have allowed for something better. Still, as it is, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that: quality is good in every aspect. Even in the brightness, contrast and colors area. But take the smartphone outside under the sun and the screen will be hard to read.
Powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread
The buttons on the QWERTY keyboard are making it very easy to write e-mails, text messages and such. The very impressive surprise is the fact that the buttons offer backlighting; so forget those times when you had to turn the lights on because you didn’t want to send the wrong person your message.
Sound is good, we could listen to songs without turning the volume so much that it hurt our ears. And when we called someone, their voice was loud and clear all the way through.
The Android 2.3 Gingerbread isn’t a pain to use. And it accepts you playing with it to change things according to your personal taste. There are no important features missing from the Replenish smartphone. Following this line of thought, you’ll see Google Maps, Internet-related options (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS), calendar, no third-party applications and many more.
2 Megapixel camera
Now, about photos: the M580 Replenish phone has a camera with 2MP. It can take photos that look pretty good; the colors won’t be that amazing, but the existing tools for editing do a good job. So everything will find a balance. Shooting videos of a concert, movie or something along those lines; and of course here are also numerous options for changing something you didn’t like about the result.
To test the performance for this review, we went on a busy street, called a friend and the following happened. Like we said before, clarity and volume for our voice were nothing to complain about. However, we didn’t like how the voices of our friend sounded; the tone was uneven and quality was fuzzy. At least the speakerphone did wonders. And add to that the battery life as well.
Samsung and its M580 Replenish smartphone will become, we think, a good selling device. It’s got nothing on the Galaxy S III, but it’s a failure either.
