Samsung LN46D630 review

A 46 inch LCD TV from Samsung

Samsung’s new LN46D630 is one of the top selling LCD HDTVs nowadays. The Korean company promises excellent performance, a multitude of great features and a good price. Is their latest TV addition worth the buy? Find the answer in our test and review below.

Very good design

Samsung have accustomed us to good-looking TVs and their LN46D630 model isn’t an exception. The device comes with the very appealing Touch of Color design that offers a hint of amber color that blends naturally with the TV’s elegant Charcoal Black (Blue Deco) Cabinet Color. With its 43.9″ x 29.0″ x 10.8″ (with stand) and 21 kg (with stand), this product fits very well in every room. The 45.9″ matte screen offers a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080; because the screen was matte, we didn’t have to cover all the windows in the room to watch content on this TV. As our tests showed, the latter provided very deep blacks, superb clarity and excellent details whenever we wanted to watch a movie or play a game. Also, both the remote control and menus were very easy to use. A small negative aspect we encountered during our review: the screen displayed a small flashlighting when the device was turned on but no signal was coming in; fortunately, this disappeared when we watched something on it.Samsung-LN46D630

Impressive image quality at 120HZ

We had no problem with this product’s stand: it offered great stability even when we moved the table it sat on repeatedly; the Samsung LN46D630 is, therefore, a great option for people with children.
The Wide Color Enhancer Plus feature expanded the color range and enhanced hues; this translated into beautiful and true-to-life images which didn’t wash-out whatever our viewing angle was. The Auto Motion Plus 120Hz with Clear Motion Rate (or CMR) feature was very helpful whenever we wanted to watch a sports competition or a fast paces action movie; this technology eliminated motion blur after calculating images and creating a non-repetitive transition from one frame to another. The CMR considered all the factors that contribute to motion clarity, namely image processor speed, backlight technology and panel refresh rate.

Good sound system

When it came to audio performance, the 10-watt speakers – though small – provided excellent sound quality thanks to the SRS TheaterSound and Dolby Digital Plus technologies. Voices were intelligible, sound was rich and crisp and volume levels were consistent. Moreover, the two powerful speakers also supported second audio program and multi-channel sound.
The 4 HDMI, 2 USB 2.0, 1 Digital Audio (Optical), 1 DVI Audio Input and 1 Audio Out Mini Jack offered a multitude of possibilities. We could easily connect digital devices and enjoy music, view photos and the like via a user-friendly interface easily controlled by the TV’s remote control.

It can be used as PC monitor

The PC input gave us the added bonus of using Samsung’s LN46D630 as a PC monitor. Then, when we wanted to play a game, we simply selected the Game Mode feature. During our test performed for this review, this mode turned off picture processing so that the device gave a faster video response.
Another pro for this device was its AllShare DLNA Networking feature, which wirelessly synched the gadget to our home network; with it we streamed photos, music and much more from other DLNA Certified devices.

Review conclusions

Finally, the Samsung LN46D630 is among those TVs that exceed Energy Star Standards, meaning it consumes up to 30% less carbon; this helps the environment as well as your monthly bills.

These Samsung D630 TVs were a good choice for me because I wanted a clear 1080p quality picture, for a good price. My family and I are remodeling a home that we rent out, and these TVs were what we bought for the two bedrooms. We have a D8000 in the living room that has a Hopper connected, while the two bedrooms have Joeys. I like that we can easily hide the Joeys in the closet so all that remains is the TV on the wall. It really looks great. Plus, since it’s a Whole-Home DVR, everything is all connected to the Hopper in the living room. Since I upgraded all the TVs in the house, I our previous TVs to my parents since they decided to get free HD added to their DISH accounts. I also have free HD from DISH where I work, and it looks great on the TVs.
