A powerful DVD at a good price
The team at Philips has released a new gadget, called Philips DVP3560/F7. According to them, this DVD player “gives you sharper, clear pictures and the Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture.” We have come to expect great products from Philips. Does their latest one rise up to the expectations of people everywhere? Read our test and review and find out.
1080p Full HD resolution
The newest DVD player manufactured by the team at Philips /F7 is one of those many gadgets which are very appealing at first look. Its black body is both sleek and beautiful; the gadget has the following weight and measurements: 1.36kg and 8.2″ x 14.1″ x 1.5″, so it’s not among the slimmest and lightest ones.
The DVP3560/F7 player sports HDMI 1080p, Progressive Scan Component Video for Optimized Image Quality, My Wallpaper, Screen Fit for Optimal Viewing, EasyLink Controls All EasyLink Products with a Single Remote, One-Touch MP3 Creation Directly from CDs onto USB Sticks, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link Plays Video/Music from USB Flash Drive and, finally, DivX Ultra Certified for Enhanced DivX Video Playback.
Easy to personalize
First things first, the HDMI 1080p feature did a very good job when we tested the product for our review. Images provided by Philips DVP3560/F7 were very clear; whenever we watched our favorite movie we enjoyed them in true HD resolution, with beautiful colors and more sharpness than ever before. The progressive scan technology further enhanced image quality by getting rid of the line structure that is standard on TV screens. The Progressive Scan Component Video feature doubled the vertical resolution of the image by writing both the field with the even lines and the field comprising the odd lines at one time; this translated into the fact that the picture had much more sharpness to it. We used the My Wallpaper option when we wanted to personalize the Welcome screen of the DVD player; we simply chose a favorite photo from our PC and set it as the wallpaper. The feature was compatible with most photo formats; we found we could also change the contrast on the uploaded picture so as to create unique lighting effects.
HDMI CEC compatible
The Screen Fit for Optimal Viewing feature of DVP3560/F7 enabled the screen to fill itself with the whole picture and get rid of black bars on bottom and top; to achieve that, all we had to do was press the Screen Fit key and choose a format. EasyLink enabled us to control various gadgets with the help of a single remote control by using a HDMI CEC industry-standard protocol; the latter shared functionality between devices via one HDMI cable. After pressing one button, we could easily operate all our connected HDMI CEC enabled equipment at the same time. Furthermore, the DVP3560/F7 helped us convert the contents of our loved CDs to MP3 files; we could, afterwards, store them on a portable media player via a USB cable.
All this was done in our lab. The Hi-Speed USB 2.0 had a data transfer rate of up to 480Mbps and we could easily plug in a USB gadget, select a photo, song or movie and quickly view, listen or watch whatever we wanted. The DivX support gave us the possibility to watch DivX encoded content by using the media format’s MPEG-4 based video compression technology; this one makes sure that you can save large files on DVD recordable discs or CD-R/RW and later play them back on the Philips DVP3560/F7.
Without further ado, after the test performed for this review, we can conclude that the new Philips DVP3560/F7 is a good buy, because it offers solid performance and lots of nice features, all at an attractive price.
