Panasonic TX-P42VT30

Panasonic-TX-P42VT30

A powerful but expensive Panasonic 3D TV

This year Panasonic is decided to attack the 3D plasma market. Today it’s the time for one of its latest products. The TX-P42VT30 is included in the VT30 family and has a diagonal of 42 inches. The TV is not really cheap. Is it worth ? Let’s see the test and the review ! 🙂

The expectations before test

For about 1600 euros selling price, the new TX-P42VT30E from Panasonic is coming with a lot of new features. At this price we must expect at a full HD resolution and the 3D compatibility. Of course that at this chapter the TV is coming with even other features. For example, the 3D compatibility is extended to the two new standards: the double stamp RealD 3D and 3D Full HD. The TV has included the latest DLNA standard certification and a display frequency of 600 Hz. With these characteristics is a must to review and test it !

The reality

Panasonic-TX-P42VT30The design is relatively common for a Panasonic product. The logo and the metallic rim are the first elements visible wt the first sight. This is not the perfect option in our opinion and the designers was not very inspired at this chapter. A good point is the design of the remote control with a pleasant feeling touch and with well organized order of the buttons. And another pleasant feature is the possibility to connect via WiFi of a USB stick, if you want.

On the connectivity part, the TV is very well organized too. The connectivity is very good and this TV has included 4 HDMI ports (one with CRA standard, audio feedback, which allows the TV to decode the signal from an amplifier of the TV). The TV has also 3 USB ports (one for Wi-Fi connectivity, one for an external HDD and the latest for the external web camera), one slot for SD card, an analog AV connector an an optical digital audio output. The latest connectors are available via adapters, a good idea which was able to reduce at the maximum of the TV dimensions.

3D active glasses

In the price of this plasma TV you will receive a pair of 3D active glasses. The glasses are rechargeable through the any mini USB port. As usual, the active glasses are not very pleasant to wear because are relative heavy and the ambient light is reduced. The TV is relatively easy to be configured and the menu is intuitive and easy to navigate and use. Anyway, at this chapter we regret the missing of any new original element at the calibration tools level. The features of Panasonic are omnipresent and the settings of the TV panel must be done via the ISFcc and THX features. At the end, the image provided is clear, realistic and pleasant.

The Viera tools set in motion the multimedia features. The good thing about the activation of the multimedia interface is that you do it really easy and there is also the function of the media server that determines the easy accessing of the information found in your personal computer. Panasonic TX-P42VT30 operates efficiently with JPEG photo and MP3 files. As far as the video is concerned, it is compatible with formats like MP4, DivX, WMV and AVCHD. The fans of the famous Facebook, YouTube or Skype will be glad to know they can benefit from these services. The Viera tools comes with the Viera Market Connect features including easy access to your favourite social networks, movies, music and sports.

Very good contrast provided

At the performance chapter, we are pleasant surprised by its HD image provided. The image is excellent and the movie lovers will be very happy to see that the quality of the image is impressive in Blu-ray and home theater signal provided. The panel offers vibrant colors, a very good contrast and intense levels of blacks. Compared with the best LCD panels, the image provided by this TV is really perfect. This plasma TV is able to offer impressive and dynamic images, even in the dark scenes. A very good quality image in 2D…

On the 3D chapter, because the TV uses the active 3D technology, the drop in brightness and color distortions can be considered normal. The contrast seems to be affected in 3D, too. The relief effect is not very well managed and the 3D effect seem to loose from its deep field effect. Anyway, a pleasant surprise is the 2D to 3D conversion, very much advanced, comparing with other competitors solutions. We just hope in the short time, the results will be even better, for every source of the image signal.

Another good point for this TV is the sound quality, which is realistic and pleasant. The TV sound is powered by two 6W speakers and a subwoofer able to offer 10 watts effective power.

Review conclusions

After these tests we have for you a conclusion of this review. The TX-P42VT30 from Panasonic is a good choice for a 3D plasma TV. The only bad thing at this TV is its still high price for a 42 inch model. Another weak point is its 3D capabilities, still not able to offer the full realistic 3D relief effect. If you want to buy one, you must think at all these characteristics.
