NEC MultiSync EA232WMi
A LED powered monitor from NEC
The NEC MultiSync EA232WMi is a cheap 24-bit In-Plane Switching panel with LED backlighting. This IPS is well-known for offering superb color reproduction and is very popular with home users and professionals that don’t have a lot of money in their pockets. Although the device is primarily aimed at office use, it is still a nice option for entertainment lovers. At least that’s what our tests told us. Find out more from our review below.
When we first saw the NEC EA232WMi, we liked it a lot because of its design. The body is made of dark gray matte plastic and sports a gently curved rectangular bezel along with beautiful OSD navigation and power keys. The product measures 550.1 x 329 x 71 (without a stand) and weighs 7.5kg. The stand comes with 4 curved rubber pads which create friction and make sure that the monitor doesn’t fall of from a desk. During the test for this review we found we could easily adjust the stand to suit our viewing needs; it even allowed us to rotate it 340 degrees; we could also do a vertical rotation into portrait mode. The front of MultiSync EA232WMi houses a 23″ screen and the back of the said stand boasts a spacious route for cables and 2 connectors for DVI, analogue and DisplayPort; this one comes with a removable cover.
Good contrast and color balance
On the bottom sit two speakers, a headphone socket set and a minijack input for audio. Also, the monitor will glow orange in standby mode and blue whenever it is on. All around the edge of the monitor towards the back there are various ventilation slits; they made sure that the monitor was well cooled; we liked the fact that the device ran much cooler when compared to other ISP monitors. The menu is easy to use and control thanks to an intuitive small joystick and 3 small keys; the joystick offered the possibility to control the OSD by touching one button and it was very easy to use it especially in the dark. We could control things like contrast, colour balance and brightness and also set the EA232WMi monitor on auto brightness mode. What is more, there were 3 levels of power saving which we could choose, color settings and image presets.
Excellent image quality
The 1.680 x 1.050 resolution offered by the display translated into excellent image quality; colors were realistic and vibrant and contrast was great. A con: the product had some silvery-purple sheen (or glow). On the plus side, we didn’t see any backlight bleed. The NEC MultiSync EA232WMi had an impressive 14ms response time. Playing games was a great experience thanks to the excellent brightness and contrast: the monitor didn’t lose detail in dark or shadowed parts. Black levels were also impressive, so were grayscale radiant and white saturation. The gadget did another great job in the color reproduction department.
As we reach the end of our test and review, we have to say that the latest NEC MultiSync EA232WMi is an efficient and capable monitor with an elegant exterior, all at an affordable price.
