Medion Akoya E6221
A not impressive 15.6-inch notebook: Akoya E6221
The latest notebook launched by the Medion producer is called Akoya E6221. Is powered by the Intel new platform. The price of this laptop is still high and with 570 euros you can find better options on the notebooks market. Let’s see the review !
The expectations before test
The purpose of the Medion Akoya E6221 is to have a low cost notebook, in the same time with the latest Intel platform. The components are from Sandy Bridge Intel platform and usually have no problem to run different tasks. However, in this notebook the platform is not perfect integrated and just office tasks can be run without resources problems. Another possible problem could be the lack of a dedicated video card, visible in the games or other video resources consuming applications. The notebook tested today can have problems because of that. But let’s see the test results !
At the first sight the Akoya E6221 comes with a brand new chassis, made from glossy plastic. This is not the perfect option for the external material because all the fingerprints will be visible on the notebook. The touchpad of E6221 is made from the same material, with a not very pleasant feeling, because is too shiny for such a device. For the keyboard was used the chiclet solution but the entire keyboard cannot be compared with the biggest competitors solutions. In the same time, the keyboard is ease to use and the typing is easy to perform.
Another bad point from our point of view is about the speakers. They are to small, with about two centimeters in diameter and not able to produce good quality sound. At this chapter this notebook is able to provide powerful stereo sound but it’s quality is not the best from the market.
This notebook is not for games
The Akoya E6221 uses as video card an integrated graphics processor from the Intel HD 3000 family. This thing make from the E6221 a machine unable to offer good quality performance in games. In our tests this thing was confirmed. The notebook was not able to offer good performance in games. With just about ten frames per second at its maximum resolution, this is not the appropriate notebook for gamers. The machine was tested at 1366 x 768 pixels resolution and in a game not very resource consuming.
This notebook seems to be perfect just for office and multimedia tasks use in everyday life. For this purpose the notebook is very good. Our tests results shows about 5297 points in PCMark Vantage. This is a good point for a machine dedicated to multimedia and office tasks. In the price of the Akoya E6221 you have included the Microsoft Office Starter. With it you are able to use the Microsoft Word and Excel free versions, without pay anything.
Two USB 3.0 ports
Another good point at this model is that the display has enough brighter to compensate the external light. Our tests revealed that the measured values for brightness are about 215 cd / m2 with a 482:1 contrast ratio. Is a good value for a notebook display at this price.
The storage capacity of the laptop is not really high, the hard drive has just 500GB. Anyway, you can still save a lot of music, movies and office documents in this volume. You can choose the 640 GB model too, if you pay more. If the space is not enough, you can add an external hard drive connected via the USB port. The Akoya E6221 has included two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports and you can extend the storage capacity with an external hard drive if you wish.
This model is pleasant to use if you need to perform different office of multimedia tasks. The Akoya E6221 is easy to use but you must don’t expect very much in terms of performance. The temperature of the external case in use is good, with about 39 Celsius degrees maximum. The keyboard is pleasant to touch and use, too and you can adjust different settings of the notebook with just few clicks. You have full access to the Wi-Fi settings or the speakers volume. The battery life is about three hours with the Wi-Fi activated and with teh notebook used to see some videos.
After our tests we have a conclusion of this review, for you. The Medion Akoya E6221 can be a good choice for you if you need a medium power laptop for your usual office tasks. The price is still high for the performance provided. Even if its configuration can be considered good, the design is not very inspired and the glossy chassis is minimalist and not very pleasant.
