Logitech Webcam C210 review

A messenger camera from Logitech

If you want a great webcam that is both easy to use and works smoothly with Skype, Yahoo Messenger Chat and the like, then you should consider buying Logitech’s Webcam C210 model. Is it really such a good device? According to what we’ve seen during our tests, then yes. Find out more from our review below.

Easy and fast installation

Before installing the Logitech Webcam C210, our computer had to have the following requirements: dual-core CPU with 1GB of RAM, 1GHz, 512MB (or more), 1 USB 2.0 port and Broadband Internet with 256kbps upload (or higher). The recommended operating system has to be either Windows Vista, 7 or XP (SP2 or later). Installing the software was very easy and fast; beginners will most definitely have no problem in this aspect, because the software comes with an illustrated instruction manual in English, French and Spanish. Despite being tiny, the booklet features very concise and clear illustrations and instructions. And, if the manual still doesn’t help, you can access four Internet pages where you’ll find very helpful information before you start installing and using the device. The built-in Logitech Vid enabled us to start fast, free and easy video calling right after the installation was completed. The product comes with a 2-year warranty.logitech-webcam-c210

Good design

The Logitech C210 measures 5.5″ x 2.5″ and weighs 226 g. In terms of design, this webcam has a thin and small flat panel body which looks great with the latest laptop styles. We had no problem arranging it on our PC where it sat securely, without falling off as easily as other webcams. After clipping it on top of the computer we could easily position it however we wanted; that was possible with the help of the clip that attaches itself very well to both monitors and laptops.

Auto light correction included

When we tested this device for our review we were very pleased with the good lighting offered by it. The auto light correction feature adjusted brightness, making sure that images remained clear even when lighting conditions were very low; as a result, the webcam never once showed dark areas like it did when we tested other such products. The new Webcam C210 also comes with a noise-cancelling microphone that provides excellent sound correction. We were able to have crystal clear conversations even in busy environments. Thanks to these two features we experienced video chatting in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.

Just 640 x 480 VGA resolution

Video calling and video recording both worked very well, despite the small price of the webcam. The 640 x 480 VGA resolution provided excellent, very clear video quality whenever we talked with friends during Skype or Yahoo Messenger video chat sessions. Two important advantages for this webcam are its own chat software called Vid and a mode that starts recording every time something moves in the frame.

Short USB cord

On the downside, we discovered during our test that the device had no privacy screen to cover the lens when we weren’t recording things. But it did have a camera-on light which told us when the device started recording. Another negative aspect was the USB cord: it was too short with its 1.5 meters.
The Webcam C210 by Logitech enabled us to take 1.3-megapixel pictures that we easily sent to friends via e-mail or posted to Twitter, Facebook and the like. The quality of these pictures was pretty good, but if you want better quality, maybe you should consider buying another webcam. Another possibility offered by this gadget: its pre-installed movie maker option.

Review conclusion

As a conclusion for this review, the new Logitech Webcam C210 represents a good choice for beginners. Experienced users should look elsewhere if they want something more sophisticated.

It is an OK product but difficult to navigate the controls for the pictures and video. It doesn’t have a very secure hold on my laptop.
