A new generation of smartphones

LG has announced recently two last-generation smart phones, the LG Optimus Net P690 and LG Optimus Pro C660. Both devices run Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and come with improved features. Our review model is the Optimus Pro, which differentiates from the other Optimus, being endowed with both a QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen. We’ve tested this phone and here is the review conclusion.

Powered by Android 2.3

Now, if you are the kind of person who likes and needs a keyboard, then this a handset to buy, but we noticed that the preferences drift towards the touchscreen-only high- tech new devices.
The LG Optimus Pro has the appearance of a Blackberry, only that it also has a touchscreen and runs Android 2.3. However, LG is not the first to combine the useful four rows- QWERTY keyboard with the advantages of a touchscreen, this format being available also on models like Motorola Pro and HTC. But this model’s advantages is that It is slimmer, compared to the other QWERTY handsets, and it also has a more stylish appearance, measuring 119.5x 59.7x 12.9mm and weighing 129g.LG-Optimus-Pro-C660

800 MHz Qualcomm Processor

The Pro C660 is loaded with a 800 MHz Qualcomm Processor, has 150MB of internal storage and 256RAM, carrying a 2G microSD slot card, expendable up to 32 GB. It also has a 3.15 MP camera with 4x digital zoom which has the GEO tagging feature, but it is the only one, so it is not a happy case for 3G. Video recording can be done at 24fps. It includes, naturally, all standard Android features, it can access internet through WiFi, GPRS, EDGE, a web browser allowing access to a great deal of apps. The connection to other files and devices can be done via Bluetooth or the microSD and works fine in the test performed for this review. Among other features, the new LG C660 it offers support for Google Search, Maps, YouTube, GTalk, is compatible with MP3, WAV, eAAC+ and, a very important feature we may say, it has document viewer and organizer, making it a business- friendly device.

Good battery life

The screen of Optimus C660 is 2.8 inches 320 x 240, powered by a Li- Ion 1500 mAh battery that promises plenty of talk time. Approximately 13h and 852h of stand by time and battery life. Some may ask why this combination of touch screen and keyboard, when you could use all that space for a larger screen for example. Well, what we can say is that it proved to be very handy, especially when browsing, speeding up our actions. Combining the use of the keypad for typing and touchscreen for web page navigation, it helps you do your job faster. You don’t have to worry for mixing the two between them, because they combine harmonically not only on the phone but also in your mind.

Just 150MB internal memory

Compared to Motorola XPRT, which also combines the touchscreen with the keypad, the Optimus Pro has a smaller display, while the XPRT has a 3.1 inch display with higher resolution. Another difference between the two is the internal memory capacity. While Optimus Pro C660 features a 150MB internal memory, the Motorola XPRT outrivals it with a 2GB memory. So, considering there specifications, we can say that Motorola XPRT is better and it also looks more attractive. And even so, it still has some minuses in comparison with our tested model. Optimus Pro C660 is lighter, is equipped with version 3 of Bluetooth, while Motorola has version 2.1, and last but not least, it runs an Android Gingerbread and not Android Froyo like Motorola.

Review conclusion

This new smartphone is a good competitor for Motorola and Samsung. Because is powered by Android and has a good price, the new LG Optimus Pro C660 is a good deal.

I am getting no battery backup.. Using it for the last 1 month.. it charges only 80% and will not go ahead.. then it last for only 7 to8 hours on normal use. just 30 minutes maximum 2g data usage.. that’s all.. when calculated. I may got approximate 1 hour call..
