LG Infinia 42LV5500 review
A revolutionary LED TV from LG ?
LG’s new Infinia 42LV5500 LED TV series promised to be a revolutionary device. But does it rise up to expectations? Here come our test and review.
The new LG Infinia model sports the following specifications: 39.8″ x 1.2″ x 24.3″, 19 kg, 42″ display size, full high-definition 1080p, 5.000.000:1 contrast ratio and 2 AAA batteries required.
Some of the features of this new LD TV are as follows: TruMotion 120Hz technology, Smart Energy Saving, LG Smart TV, Intelligent Sensor, remote control and manual.
Very good design
The product is slim and sleek; the color it comes in is black and the screen has a matte finish.
Picture quality is very good; this is made possible via LG’s LED technology, which offers, in comparison to other LCD TVs, excellent clarity, brightness and colors. Also, the full HD 1080p feature with its double-the-norm resolution does a good job in offering superior picture quality when compared to normal HDTV: details and colors are excellent.
Intelligent Sensor technology
The Intelligent Sensor option of 42LV5500 analyzes the lighting and color conditions in your room and then quickly optimizes the picture on the screen. Picture Wizard II offers TVs of this kind the possibility to easily self-calibrate, operation done via on-screen reference points for picture elements that include color, tint, backlight and black levels and sharpness. This offered us a great viewing experience in both daytime and nighttime, because the LG Infinia model practically did all the adjustments without our intervention.
Good contrast ratio
We also tested the contrast ratio for this review; we weren’t disappointed in the results: the 5.000.000:1 ratio offers vibrant colors as well as deep and dark blacks.
The LG Smart TV feature is both fun and easy to use: you only have to click the Magic Motion remote; its intuitive point-and-click control and five buttons will give you the possibility to watch streaming videos, live TV and play with different LG applications that are free. Unfortunately, the latter were quite a disappointment; only the Netflix streaming one worked well.
The menu is not intuitive
Another drawback we encountered in our testing of the new LG Infinia 42LV5500 was represented by the menus used for setting favorite channels: they were difficult to use and not even intuitive. The properties of the Add/Delete key featured on the Quick Menu were really hard to understand.
With the TruMotion 120Hz refresh rate option we could watch sport programs, movies and much more without the annoying motion blur.
WiFi connectivity included
Getting a Wi-Fi connection to your LG Infinia TV is easy. All the user has to do is enter his or her Linky password, click on Netflix and wait for the authorization message. You won’t have to worry about tons of wires anymore. Unfortunately, the LG web browser doesn’t support HTML5 or Flash 10, but it nonetheless works with older versions of Flash.
The audio and video quality is another plus for this TV.
Finally, the Smart Energy Saving feature means you will save energy in standby as well as in active modes. It also assures you won’t pay a lot of money for your electrical bills: Energy Star-qualified TVs use 30% less energy than standard ones.
And now we come to the end of our review. The new Infinia 42LV5500 is a good option if you want a good LED TV at an affordable price.
