A new solid phone on the market
The LG Esteem smartphone has both good sides and bad sides, as any other product in this world. Recent owners of this device have complained about the poor battery life and slow data speeds, but they very much liked the operating system, front and rear cameras and 4G LTE network. It’s worthwhile to know that this smartphone is MetroPCS’ most advanced and fastest phone. After taking it for a run, here’s our review conclusion.
Corning Gorilla Glass display
We certainly aren’t fans of the sheer size of this smartphone. Because this is one heck of a beast with racing stripes and a total weight of 170g. To put it even more simply, the Esteem phone is a black square which has thin silver metal accents down the spines and sharp edges. Its measurements: 5″ x 2.6″ x 0.5″. Though it’s so beefy, this smartphone felt and was very solid actually; but you shouldn’t hit it too often to see that we’re right. The screen is touch responsive and measures 4.3″ with 480 x 800 pixels in way of resolution. The topper is the usual Corning Gorilla Glass and there’s support for 262.000 colors. This meant that we had to do with sharpness, beautiful colors and brightness whenever we used the smartphone. If you look under the display you’ll see the Menu, Back, Home and Search keys; looking to the right we saw the button for volume and a microHDMI adapter port, and on the left sat a covered microUSB slot.
5 megapixel camera
A 5 megapixel camera is situated on the back of Esteem phone and the 3.5mm headset jack and the lock/power button. And, as mentioned some paragraphs above this one, there’s a second camera, a 1.3-megapixel one this time, above the screen.
The interface was very easy to use; our biggest pleasure lay in the fact that, in order to get to the photo gallery, we didn’t have to leave the camera app completely.
Features for the recently released LG Esteem include the following: Google services, apps for Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites, Polaris Office, SmartShare home networking, standard options the likes of calculator, newsreader, browser, text and multimedia messaging and the list goes on.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS
The operating system installed on the LG Esteem is Android 2.3 Gingerbread; the interface is a custom one and comes with access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and others. When we tested the smartphone for this review we noticed it also had Swype preinstalled, so that was great. And more than that, if you’re not a fan of this feature, you can at any time switch to an Android keyboard with ease.
The 5-megapixel camera sported on the rear snapped pictures that displayed lovely colors and a lot of crispness, much to our delight, since some of the cameras usually found on smartphones aren’t that great. We encountered shutter lag only a few times. The 1.3-megapixel camera on the front was even better; in fact, it was much better than others we’ve tested so far. Videos shot with these two cameras also looked good.
Short battery life
Music lovers will no doubt indulge in the Rhapsody music application present on the LG Esteem, because during our testing it delivered good performance volume- and richness-wise and the stereo speakers only improved the already noteworthy experience.
As for memory, you have 8GB to consider and use; memory can be expanded to reach 32GB.
Call quality when using this smartphone to talk to people sounded fairly well; we wished it were clearer and the volume was stronger, but other than that we had no problems. Data speeds were somewhat disappointing.
But the most disappointing was the battery, since it couldn’t make this smartphone resist more than 3.5 hours.
Overall, the new LG Esteem phone can be a good choice if you don’t need a lot of autonomy. Is a solid phone and you can always count on it.
