Huawei Honor U8860
A powered by Android smartphone
We don’t know how you feel, but when we hear about Huawei phones we think of acceptable, mid-range devices which on a low budget make you say “that will do”.
This is not the case however with Huawei Honor U8860 which goes beyond all expectations. It is a shiny phone with a big display and classy design. It is far beyond a cheap look and comes with good specifications as well. Let’s see the test performed for this phone review.
4 inch TFT touchscreen
The Honor U8860 features a 4 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 854 pixel resolution. The screen itself is very well equipped with an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, multi-touch input method, gyro sensor and proximity sensor for turn-off and also touch-sensitive controls at the bottom of the phone.
The smartphone runs Android 2.3 and doesn’t look very different from its competitors, like Samsung or HTC. It packs a powerful Qualcomm1.4 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, which is better than what Sony Erricson’s XPERIA has, namely a Qualcomm1 GHz Scorpion processor, running the same Android 2.3. The Honor U8860 performed well indeed, changing smoothly between apps and menus.
The bad part of this phone is that it has only 512MB of RAM, but provides a microSD card slot for a maximum of 32GB.
As mentioned above, the design of the Honor U8860 is impressive. The phone is encased in a silver-metal edge that ads much to the exquisite design. Under the screen you have the four custom touch sensitive buttons for home, menu, back and search and above you can see the 2 megapixel front faced camera plus the Huawei logo. The back of the phone hosts the 8 megapixel camera (3264 x 2448), which comes full equipped with Autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, HDR and which can record 720p video.
The Honor has support for UMTS 900 MHz/1200 MHz HSDPA connectivity, meaning it is a dual-band phone. Huawei didn’t forget about GPS connectivity which is on board, with A-GPS support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and DLNA.
If you choose the U8860 smartphone to be your next we guess it is not a bad choice, although it is hard to go with a company that started manufacturing phones not very long ago. Anyway, the Honor U8860 is an obvious upgrade from the previous models and we can see that the company is aiming high. The Honor is available in a variety of colors, which is typical for Asian fashion, like Glossy Black, Textured Black, Elegant White, Vibrant Yellow, Cherry Blossom Pink and Burgundy.
Good call quality
Phone calls are generally clear, thanks to the noise cancellation system with the dedicated microphone and also has some extra strong features which we didn’t mention so far, like document viewer, Adobe Flash support and Google Search, Maps, Gmail and Google Talk. Seeing the specs, the phone aims to business category and is fair enough. It has a strong, powerful battery with a life that lasts more than we tested so far on other top-notch smartphones, this being as close as to 3 days.
At the end of the test, the review conclusion is that the Honor U8860 is a promising upcoming for the company and we can’t wait to see what’s next. We don’t have exact price information, but we do hope that Huawei keeps up with the good tradition of low prices.
