HP Pavilion G70-250US
A simple 17 inch laptop at a good price
Everybody is talking about how good this laptop is and how much better that other laptop is. But which of the two to choose, when there are so many superb ones crowding the stores? HP hopes to answer the question with their new laptop called HP Pavilion G70-250US. As we all know, the team at HP has been producing a lot of really good laptops throughout the year, so expectations are high for their latest one. Is it any good? We took it for a spin and here is what we have to say about it.
A heavy notebook
Let’s face it, among the first things we look at when buying a new device is looks. Here is what we have noticed about the design of the HP G70-250US. For those of you who love simple, yet elegant laptops, this one is exactly like that: stylish, straightforward, streamlined, polished and ready-to-go; it boasts a textured HP Imprint finish with the prism design in silver and a semi-reflective black plastic body. Unfortunately, this is a rather heavy laptop with its 2.99kg; the product measures 10.6″ x 16.2″ x 1.5″, so at least it’s on the thin side. In terms of screen: the Pavilion G70-250US notebook houses a 17.3″ diagonal High Definition+ HP BrightView LED Display.
The HP BrightView technology made sure that the laptop offered great clarity for easy reading. The display comes with a resolution of 1440 x 900-pixels. When we tested the laptop for this review, we very much enjoyed the crystal-clear images offered by this display. Viewing angles were great. As for keyboard of G70-250US: it is a silent numeric one and we had no problem typing on it, because it felt really comfortable to the touch and was very responsive. Furthermore, the one-touch buttons offered fast access to the Internet, e-mail and many more. The textured HP Imprint finish with the prism design in silver was very useful, because it provided good protection against those annoying fingerprints. What we didn’t like was the mousepad: our thumbs slid over it and the pointer started going berserk, because the mousepad is a bit off center.
Intel T4200 processor
In terms of processor, the new HP G70-250US uses the following: Intel Pentium dual-core T4200(2.00GHz). As expected for this review, both this spec and the Intel GMA 4500M Graphics card both did an impressive job. Moreover, the processor offered us the possibility to easily multitask.
In the memory and storage department, the latest laptop coming from HP sports the following: 3GB of RAM and 320GB. These meant that we had enough room for photos, music and the like. What was more, the hard drive was very silent during our test and the device ran much cooler than others we’ve tested so far.
Windows Vista Home Premium OS
Moving on to operating system, the device runs on Windows Vista Home Premium. It helped us transform the laptop into a complete multimedia and entertainment device. The laptop also boasts Microsoft Works 9. The product comes with a dual-layer Lightscribe multi-format DVD drive; the latter enabled us to burn custom labels onto both DVDs and CDs.
The HP Pavilion G70-250US features a preinstalled MediaSmart Software Suite and a Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe; these two allowed us to manage our media collection, create CDs and DVDs and, finally, fix and edit DVDs.
When talking about connectivity, we have the following ports and inputs: 1 HDMI, 3 USB, 1 Microphone jack, 1 headphone jack and 1 VGA. As for communication, the gadget features 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN and 10/100Mbps LAN.
The 6-cell lithium ion battery didn’t offer such an impressive life, but it was alright. The device ships with a 1-year limited warranty for parts and labor.
All in all, the review conclusion is that the latest HP Pavilion G70-250US is a simple laptop with good performance and price.
