HP Pavilion DV6-1350US
A solid 15 inch notebook
The popular and beloved HP has released a new laptop on markets worldwide. Its name: HP Pavilion DV6-1350US. The new device is expected to deliver. But does it really do that? In order to give our readers a good answer to that, we took the laptop for a spin. We invite you to read our conclusion.
Glossy external look
First things first, let’s see how the latest HP DV6-1350US did in terms of design. As we all know, HP products are known for their good looks and this new model lives up to expectations, even though some of you won’t probably appreciate the fact that holding the device in the lap is somewhat uncomfortable because of the bulging battery. The product we are reviewing today comes in a textured Imprint finish with the prism design in silver. The lid is black and glossy. With measurements and weight such as 14.9″ x 10.15″ x 1.33″ and 2.87kg, this gadget is among the lightest and thinnest ones out there.
720p LED display
The front houses a 15.6″ Diagonal High Definition HP LED BrightView Display which comes with the following specs: 1366 x 768 resolution, native support for 720p HD content and 16:9 aspect ratio. The HP BrightView technology made sure that the laptop offered great clarity for easy reading thanks to the fact that details and colors popped, making it double as a mirror whenever we worked in a brightly lit environment. During our test for this review, we noticed that viewing angles were great. The black keyboard and chrome numeric keypad were great, albeit prone to picking up smudges because of their shiny surfaces. The keyboard felt smooth to the touch and there were no layout surprises there. The laptop also features a mini remote control that we used for multimedia applications. Above the keyboard sit touch-sensitive buttons for turning the Wi-Fi radio on/off and handling the volume; and, when we wanted to use a mouse, we simply clicked a key placed below the space bar and turned the touchpad off.
Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor
In the processor department, the new Pavilion DV6-1350US 2.20GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6600. This one boasted 2MB of Level 2 cache and 800MHz front-side bus and was among one of the best ones we tested so far. On the downside, the Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics didn’t allow us to play moderate games. Now, in terms of memory and storage space, the laptop offers 4GB of DDR3 system memory along with 320GB with 7.200rpm Western Digital hard disk.
Let’s now see what ports, outputs, inputs and jacks the device has to offer; we found the following: 4 USB, 1 HDMI video, 1 VGA, mic and dual headphone, ExpressCard slot, Ethernet and 5-in-1 flash-card slot. Unfortunately, there is no Blu-ray, USB TV tuner or FireWire port; on the plus side, the laptop provides Bluetooth wireless and 802.11b/g/n. the primary optical drive is a Dual-Layer DVD+/-RW.
Windows 7 OS
As for operating system, the product runs Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (the 64-bit version).
When we tested the HP Pavilion DV6-1350US notebook, its 12-cell Lithium-Ion battery provided up to 3.5 hours on a single charge.
The laptop also comes with features such as integrated webcam and LightScribe Technology. The webcam and the stereo speakers both did a good job and the LightScribe easily and smoothly burned labels directly onto DVDs and CDs.
Here is what we think about the product we reviewed: if you want to buy a new laptop, the latest HP Pavilion DV6-1350US is a good choice; it offers solid mobile performance, good speed and an attractive price.
