HP Mini 210 HD
A mini laptop made by HP
I’ve never been a fan of the mini laptops. Even if I used to own a mini Dell, I wasn’t very satisfied of its features, and even more than that, it wasn’t what I needed. Though, a lot of people I know have been talking lately a lot about the HP Mini 210 HD, therefore when I was asked to review the Mini 210, I didn’t have any motives to say “No”.
First of all, I was impressed by the weight of this mini laptop: only 2.9 pounds (weighed without an adaptor), therefore if it’s carried in a backpack, most of its users will barely feel it.
Intel Atom N450 processor
Moreover, HP Mini 210 HD comes with a powerful processor 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450, made especially for it, 1 GB of RAM memory and 160 GB on the HDD. However, from what we’ve seen, the HDD can be upgraded up to 250 GB; that’s the maximum supported memory. The whole operation costs no more than $30 and can be done easily on HP’s official website.
The first big “plus” came from the touchpad. If you have ever seen some older versions of the HP laptops, then you must know those vertical buttons they used to put on the touchpad. HP Mini 210 HD comes without them. However, for some people, the new designed (flat surface delimited by two crossed lines) touchpad might be awkward to use, as the inner buttons of the touchpad can barely be felt.
Good quality display
As concerning the display, find out that he 10.1-inch wide-screen screen is capable of giving 1,366×768-pixel image, which is nowadays by far more popular than the traditional 1024*768. Obviously, the first thing that we wanted to test was the HD stream. Still, we were forced to install Flash’s 10.1 version in order to make the stream work at 720 p HD mode on Youtube. The image was great, just what we’d expected, even at a 480 resolution.
Medium battery life
Another thing that we’ve tested was the battery life. Though, in order to obtain some accurate numbers, we had to run two times the same test, mainly because we’ve realized that the lifetime of the battery was decreasing faster during the period while we where streaming in HD mode. Hower, we obtained two important info: if the HD mode is used heavily, the battery depletes in 4 hours an 45 minutes max. Though, if it’s used on standard definition, the battery can last up to 6 hours, fact that’s really great for a netbook. Another big “plus” for this Mini 210 HD, if you ask me.
Finally, we have to tell you that we were a bit disappointed of the external speakers. If the place where the netbook is noisy, in order to hear something from Mini 201 HD, you will definitely need some external speakers.
However, it was awesome to test this gadget and I’ve definitely enjoyed testing and reviewing it. If you are looking forward to buying a netbook, then HP Mini 210 HD must be on your list, in order to not miss a great gadget at a low price.
