A new 27 inch LED monitor from HP
The popular HP has launched a new LED backlit LCD monitor. Its name: HP 2711x. Manufacturers claim that their latest device will let users to enjoy a great experience. Is their claim true? We tested their new monitor and here is what we think.
1920 X 1080 Full HD resolution
The HP 2711x is, first of all, a beautiful and slender product. The panel comes with 1″ matte black cabinet with rounded corners and 1″ glossy black bezels on the sides and top; there is also a 1.6″ bezel on the bottom. With measurements and weight such as 25.75″ x 18.54″ x 7.26″ and 7.7kg, the monitor we’re reviewing today is thinner and lighter than others. The 27″ Diagonal Thin-Film Transistor LCD display features the following: 1920 X 1080 pixels, 3.000.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 60Hz refresh rate. As a con, during our test we noticed that the surface was way too glossy; as a result, we were distracted, when suing this device, by our image reflected in the screen.
Without built-in power supply
Also, we couldn’t adjust the height of the HP 2711x in order to get a good view height. Fortunately, the stand offered the possibility to tilt it 30 degrees. On the right side of the lower bezel sit 4 buttons, on/off key and blue backlit power indicator. The HDMI, VGA and DVI inputs are on the back of the display. On the downside, the monitor doesn’t come with speakers, USB ports, component A/V ports, card reader or headphone jack. Other things the HP 2711x lacked were the following: ambient light sensor and built-in power supply.
One of the things we most liked about this new device was the plastic clip with which we could keep the video and power cables clean. When it comes to the menu, the HP 2711x sports a basic one, with only picture and management settings. Controls included contrast, brightness, color temperature, sharpness, level and aspect ratio. It is best to keep the dynamic contrast ratio turned on, because it gives more beautiful colors without extreme brightness.
Powered by LEDs
In the features department, the most important one is the LED backlighting. When we tested the 2711x monitor for our review, this one produced deeper blacks, made the device turn on quicker and consumed less power. The BrightView technology did a great job of reducing glare and the 3.000.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio provided a very nice transition when images on the screen changed from lights to darks. The product sports 4 picture presets for Text apps, Photo, Movie and Gaming, with the Text one being the best of the bunch.
Medium response time panel speed
The device has a 5ms response time which provides minimal ghosting effect and greatly reduces motion blur. The Power Saver feature used our computer’s power plan to put the HP 2711x to sleep whenever the PC entered its sleep mode. Another best thing about the device is that it uses only 24-watts of power.
The overall performance was good. Beautiful colors, sharpness and contrast were all present. There were no dead pixels, the LED was bright enough and graphics were crisp and clean. Watching movies and playing games was a very nice experience. A con: off angle viewing wasn’t great.
The monitor offers a 1-year warranty for labor, parts and backlighting.
As a conclusion of this review, the HP 2711x, despite its lack of extra features, is a good option if you want an eco-friendly HD display which offers great viewing experience for games and movies.
