Garmin Nüvi 2460LMT review
An affordable car GPS from Garmin
Garmin’s Nüvi series are well-known to offer from affordable and pocket-sized GPS models to advanced with voice-activated ones. Their latest 2460LMT model is one of them. We tested this product and here is our review.
Easy to use
Specifications for this device are as follows: 5.0″ WQVGA color TFT touchscreen with white backlight, nuRoute technology (includes traffic Trends and my Trends, no subscription required), in-built City Navigator NT North America, free lifetime maps and traffic updates, charger, 480 x 272 pixel display resolution, 5.3″ x 5.3″ x 2.6″, 1.3 pounds and 1 Lithium ion battery included.
The screen can be activated by voice and is very easy to use. Moreover, it is compatible with Bluetooth. There’s a multipoint route planner which sorts numerous destinations into one efficient route.
Free lifetime map updates
The free Lifetime Map and Traffic updates allow access to things like points of interest, up-to-date maps and navigation information. There’s constant update for traffic information and you will be able to download updated maps several times per year.
The Speak Commands are extremely useful. Why: they inform you where to turn and, what is more, they listen to your vocal commands. This option features a technology called speech recognition; this means that you will maintain both hands firmly on the wheel, thus avoiding accidents because you will control the device with just your voice. The speak commands start working once you start saying commands to it from the menu; for example, you can tell it to find an address and everything will be set into motion to assure you reach it fast and in time.
Traffic trends technology
Traffic Trends analyzes information about traffic flow in order to improve routes and make predictions about the time of your arrival in a certain place. My Trends lets you save your usual destinations in a folder called Favorites; after a while, the device will learn your route and take you there without you having to tell it directly. You will therefore arrive everywhere on time.
With the built-in traffic receiver along with free lifetime traffic updates you will find out about traffic delays and road construction on your route. All you have to do is touch the screen and avoid the area with problems.
Hands free option
The new Garmin Nüvi 2460LMT enables you to use the hands-free option: you can connect your Bluetooth phone to the built-in microphone and speaker. When you want to call someone, you simply dial the number of that person with the touchscreen keypad; when you wish to answer, you tap the screen and use the integrated mic.
The Lane assist with junction view feature tells you the right lane to take and transforms unfamiliar intersections and the like into easy to navigate elements by showing you road signs or junctions and arrows that indicate the better lane for your route.
Very clear display
The touchscreen looks very nice in the tests performed for this review: details, directions and the like look vibrant and colorful. Route planning helps you save numerous routes; moreover, it enables you to preview simulated turns. It also looks in its database and provides the best route for important errands and such. The device features a trip log that lets you see the places you’ve already driven through.
The interface on this GPS model is intuitive; it greets you with two options: “Where to?” and “View map.” After you select an address you will hear turn-by-turn directions in a very clear voice. This option comes with several street names featuring ~6 million points of interest.
The new Garmin Nüvi 2460LMT has an option called ecoRoute that calculates routes that are the most-efficient in the gas and money department.
This GPS product comes with the following: an FM Traffic Receiver (including a Vehicle Power Cable), Vehicle Suction Cup Mount, an USB cable and a Quick Start Menu.
Our test and review of the latest Garmin Nüvi 2460LMT are over, but one thing is clear: this product is a great offer if you want to feel safe and taken care of when you drive your car.
