Dell Inspiron M5030 2800B3D
A new 15 inch notebook
There are a lot of laptops out there to choose from, meaning you’ll have a hard time and you’ll need a lot of time to find the right one for you. You have to know what you need from such a device, what you’ll use it for and how much money you’re willing to spend on it. We chose to review the new Dell Inspiron M5030 2800B3D and here is what we have to say about it.
720p display resolution
This laptop is quite a looker with its appealing exterior that comes with 3D black-patterned finish and glossy accents. It will certainly impress friends and work colleagues. The Inspiron M5030 2800B3D measures 14.88″ x 9.65″ x 1.58″ and has a weight of 2.54kg; this translated into the fact that it was very easy to carry with us everywhere we went. The product sports a 15.6-inch high-definition LCD; this one comes with 1366 x 768-pixel resolution for native HD 720p display and 16:9 aspect ratio. The latter spec enhanced our viewing experience. The product also boasts a full-size ergonomic keyboard which was very responsive and easy to use, a 0.3-megapixel webcam and integrated stereo speakers.
AMD Athlon II P360 processor
The processor this Inspiron M5030 uses is a 2.3 GHz AMD Athlon II dual-core P360. It features 800 MHz front-side bus along with 1 MB L2 cache, which means that multitasking is a breeze and 32- and 64-bit computing didn’t encounter a decrease in overall performance. The processor comes with a technology called Vision Technology from AMD; with its help, we could, during our test for this review, experience sharp photos, great music quality, vivid videos and Internet pages.
The Dell M5030 runs on Windows 7 Home Premium (the 64-bit version). It was easy to create a home network and share all of our favorite photos, music, videos and the like with friends and family and also watch shows for free with the help of Internet TV on Windows Media Center.
ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphic card
Manufacturers at Dell provided their latest laptop with Microsoft Office Starter 2010. When we wanted to get the full suite, all we had to do was buy a product key and activate an ad-free version.
The laptop comes with up to 500 GB on the hard disk drive and up to 6GB of memory. The ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphics card with 512MB of dedicated graphics memory provided the device with great performance, various interesting features and power efficiency. Moreover, we were able to play graphic-rich games and work with large video files without any problem whatsoever.
When talking about the built-in webcam, everything worked well. Image quality was good and we could video chat with loved ones without problems.
Good sound quality
The sound quality of our conversations was also good, thanks to the pair of stereo speakers which offered a total power of 2 Watts and the great mic. Files were easily transferred with the help of the 3-in-1 media card reader.
In the connectivity department, the Inspiron M5030 boasts the following: 1 VGA, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 headphone jack, 1 microphone and Fast Ethernet (10/100). There’s also Wireless-N Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) which offers very fast connectivity to both home and business networks; it includes backwards compatibility with older wireless routers.
Online backup service
We were pleased to see that the M5030 laptop has an optional online backup service (unfortunately not free) which comes with data protection. How: users will have the possibility to back up data to a remote and safe storage site via a broadband connection. After setup will be over, it will automatically back up data and offer protection against hardware, software and the like.
The device comes with Anti-Spyware, McAfee SecurityCenter with Anti-Virus, Firewall (6-month subscription) and 1-year limited hardware warranty.
After the test performed for our review we can conclude that the Dell Inspiron M5030 2800B3D might not be the best option for people who love working with Adobe Photoshop and heavy gaming, but it’s a good choice for students.
