Dell Inspiron 1545

A medium quality 15 inch laptop

There are a lot of laptops out there to choose from, meaning you’ll have a hard time and you’ll need a lot of time to find the right one for you. You have to know what you need from such a device, what you’ll use it for and how much money you’re willing to spend on it. We chose to review the new Dell Inspiron 1545 and here is what we have to say about it.

Solid materials

As we all know, Dell laptops are among the good-looking ones and the newest model is no exception. The latest Dell Inspiron 1545 is a stylish device with its glossy surface, keyboard and touchpad. The colors the product comes in are the following: Matte Black, Pacific High-Gloss Blue, Microsatin Blue and Red. Even though they’re glossy and shiny, the lid, touchpad and keyboard still get dirty with fingerprints. The latter two were easy to use; the keys on the keyboard responded well and were well-spaced. The body is made of solid matte plastic, so you won’t have to fear that it would get scratches if dropped on the ground.Dell-Inspiron-1545

Wide-screen LED display

The Dell 1545 boasts a 15.6″ wide-screen LED screen with a resolution of 1.366 x 768 and an aspect ratio of 16:9. These two didn’t offer that much text sharpness, but fortunately we didn’t notice, during our test for this review, excessive backlight bleed. On the downside, viewing angles weren’t al all great, and the contrast also had to suffer. What was more, we registered some reflection in a lit environment. Even though the display isn’t full HD, we could still easily read both text and icons. Glare was kept to a minimum; despite that, brightness and colors were less vibrant when compared to other laptops.

Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor

Let’s now see what processor the new Inspiron 1545 laptop uses: an Intel Core 2 Duo T6500. The latter is a good one and it handles office tasks and multimedia well. As for graphics card, this laptop offers a 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 one. We encountered some problems with various games we tried to play; so, if you are a serious gamer, look for a gaming laptop.
When it comes to memory and storage, the product ships with 250GB (with 5.400rpm) and 3GB (800MHz DDR2). The stereo speakers did a very good job; we never had to turn the volume way up as we had to when testing other laptops. The webcam performed well: image quality was good, with clear details and nice colors.

Medium battery life

In the connectivity department, the Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook comes with the following ports, inputs and jacks: headphone, microphone, VGA out, 3 USB 2.0, Ethernet/modem, ExpressCard slot and SD card reader; with the help of the latter we could easily and at any time add a Bluetooth card or a broadband modem. In terms of networking, we have 802.11n Wi-Fi. There’s also an optical drive for DVD burner.
The operating system used by Dell’s latest device is Windows Vista Premium. The 6-cell battery offered 2 hours and 34 minutes of life.
The product ships with a 1-year warranty for labor and parts.

Review conclusion

The review and our test conclusion is that the new Dell Inspiron 1545 is a nice pick if you’re looking for a new laptop. But there are much better options out there.
