Acer Iconia Tab A700
Many new tablets have invaded the market this year. And there are many more months to go till 2013, so there is plenty of time for even more new models. Acer is a veteran in this area, having released many such gadgets. Their creative flow is still going strong and their latest £383 Iconia Tab A700 is proof for that. The fact that it has a really good price is one of its strongest pros. We will tell you more about this in our review below.
Impressive display resolution
Acer’s Iconia Tab A700 ships with many great specs. Such as a 10.1″ display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, a pixel density of 224 pixels-per-inch, a 16:10 aspect ratio, 1GB of memory, 260 mm x 175 mm x 11mm as dimensions, an Nvidia Tegra 1.3GHz 3 (T30S) CPU, a weight of 665g, 32GB of storage space and Google’s Android 4.04 operating system.
Dropping the Iconia Tab A700 easily is not possible, thanks to its back which is covered in rubber. As for thinness and lightness, this tablet is somewhere in the middle. We could still, during our tests, carry it with perfect ease.
The con which majorly put us off was the touchscreen’s glossy surface. It provided a lot if reflections. But we did like how the colors looked. Also, contrast was not the best we have seen so far. Watching or reading something while using the gadget in its portrait mode was a tricky situation: the display tended to dim quite often. And whenever we touched the display, it did not respond right away. The device’s viewing angles could have been way better. Bright levels were very nice.
Good battery life
The pair of speakers on board do not need headphones to assure better quality. They are good on their own. The sound they delivered was just right for listening to music, to actors’ voices in movies and so on.
Connectivity matters are attended to by the following options: 1 HDMI, 1 microSD card slot (which means support for a maximum of 32GB SDHC cards), 1 slot for a 3G SIM card and 1 micro USB. The latter has a double role: besides the obvious one, it can be used by the proprietary cable of the tablet’s charger.
The quality of the battery included on this gadget is really good in tests. And that is thanks to the processor. In other words, this sort of battery is capable of an amount of 12V at 1.5A. Which translates into faster charging time, such as 9 hours and a half when you have not considered playing a video in high definition. Because this activity will make the battery go on for 9 hours. Which still is a great figure in the world of tablets.
A game which uses the 3D technology will not be a huge problem for the Iconia Tab A700 and its GPU. Things will not run smoothly, either. We noticed problems in our review because of the resolution. This resulted into loss of detail on many occasions. We did not meet any game that could overcome this. So if you are a true gamer, you should divert your attention to other tablets with a better graphics unit. The same will happen with applications, unfortunately.
All of the above considered, we still look at the Acer Iconia Tab A700 as a tablet that does not disappoint that much. This device just needs a couple of improvements and it is ready to work much better.
