Acer Aspire AS5750-6438 review

A new notebook from Acer

Acer has come with a new laptop on the market. Its name: Acer Aspire AS5750-6438. This device is considered a good choice if all you want is a laptop centered on multimedia performance. Is the product any good or should you consider buying another one? We tested it and here is what we think after this review.

Elegant design

When we first saw the latest Acer AS5750-6438 we very much liked its elegant simple black design. At 9.9″ x 15″ x 1.3″ and 2.6 kg, the gadget is a thin, sleek and light one; we could easily and comfortably carry it with us wherever we went. We liked its beautiful textured mesh black cover and the fact that it successfully protected against both blotches and fingerprints. The 15.6″ HD Widescreen CineCrystal LED Back-Lit Display registered fast response time whenever we watched a sports event, played a game or watched an action movie; its native 720p resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio offered the best viewing experience with bright and sharp images. FineTip keyboard

The device’s FineTip keyboard was very intuitive thanks to its large buttons and dedicated numeric keypad that translated into accurate data input. As with other Acer laptops, this one boasts a multi-gesture touchpad; this meant that we could easily flick, pinch and swirl our fingers across it when we wanted to experience more true-to-life video and photo viewing. The touchpad also offered intuitive navigation of Internet sites and gave us the possibility to zoom in/out, scroll and flip through photos, web pages and the like.

Intel GMA HD 3000 integrated GPU

The Aspire AS5750-6438 also sported Intel’s GMA HD 3000 integrated GPU which, during our test for this review, offered beautiful colors and very clear images. The gadget comes with dual-core 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410M CPU that has the popular Turbo Boost technology; the latter greatly enhanced the response speed and enabled us to smoothly browse through photos, videos and much more.
The integrated 1.3MP HD Webcam worked very well; its high pixel 1280 x 1024 resolution offered excellent HD image quality at 24fps when we chatted with loved ones, when we took a picture or shot videos. The new AS5750-6438 notebook ships with two built-in stereo speakers that provide high definition audio support due to its Dolby Advanced Audio; this meant that we could play a game, watch a movie or listen to music in the best possible sound conditions. What we didn’t particularly like about this laptop during our tests was the fact that it heated a lot; fortunately we found a cooler, bought it and everything was well once more.

Powered by Windows 7

The device runs on Windows 7 Home Premium (the 64-bit version), which means that users can easily create a home network and also share music, photos and the like. Furthermore, they can quickly open everything on the laptop and simplify the management of all our open windows with the help of this operating system. The laptop comes preinstalled with Office Starter 2010.
When it comes to ports and connectivity, the Acer AS5750-6438 notebook has a multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader, 1 HDMI Port and 3 USB 2.0 Ports. 802.11n Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet LAN offers fast connectivity whether you’re at home, school or work.

Good battery life

The battery offers up to 4.5 hours on a single charge. Because the gadget doesn’t have a backup dick we had to buy 4 DVDs to make one ourselves. The laptop ships with McAfee Internet Security Suite for a 60-day trial.

Review conclusion

In conclusion, after this test performed for this review we can say that the American company has done a good job with its Acer Aspire AS5750-6438. The latter offers quality performance at an affordable price.

Hello Jacqueline, We’ve used an external cooler, placed under the notebook.
