7″ iRobot APad iPed Epad
A new 7 inch Google Android tablet
Although advertised as an iRobot, the 7″ iRobot APad iPed Epad is actually an Epad or Flytouch device which runs Google Android OS. Since its official launch on markets worldwide, this product has quickly developed a consistent fanbase, because it supposedly offers really good overall performance at a very affordable price. Does it rise up to expectations? We decided to test the device and here is what we have to say about it.
800 x 480 touch screen
The latest iRobot APad iPed Epad is a great looking tablet PC with its elegant black body, clean lines and smooth, rounded edges. Measuring 200mm x 127mm x 16mm and weighing 370g, this gadget occupies a good spot in the slimmest and lightest tablets category. When we tested it for our review, we found it very comfortable to carry around or move from bag to bag. The device features a 7″ touch screen that has a resolution of 800 x 480 and an aspect ratio of 16:9. What we didn’t like about the touch screen: we had to apply a slight pressure to get it to respond, because it wasn’t like an iPad or an iPod display; things got better when we used the calibration tool. Image quality was good, with beautiful, sharp and detailed colors and text.
Android OS 1.6
In terms of memory and hard drive, the iRobot APad iPed Epad features the following: 256MB DDR2 and 2GB. The gadget uses Google’s own Android OS version 1.6. This translated into the possibility of gaining access to the same applications and games as any Google Android device has; some of the latter: integrated eBook reader app, Google Maps, Gmail apps and so on. We were able to easily and smoothly buy them and much more from the Android Marketplace; some of them were even available for free on the Internet. The product runs on a VIA 8505 450 MHz CPU; the latter offered nice speed and overall performance.
USB 2.0 connectivity
The newest iRobot APad iPed Epad tablet also comes with webcam; when we tested the device, this one did a good job: image quality was fine with clear details and nice colors. The integrated mic and speaker both performed well.
We wanted to see if the gadget had any useful ports, inputs and the like for this review; we weren’t disappointed: the device featured audio/video output, USB 2.0 host / USB 2.0 device (through interface converter), microphone input, microphone socket, power socket and memory card slot (Micro SD card). As for wireless connectivity, there’s an Ethernet connection, built-in IEEE802.11b / g (wireless LAN) and RJ45 (through interface converter).
The gadget also ships with GPS capabilities when connected to Wi-Fi and a full web browser.
The iRobot APad iPed Epad comes with support for the following formats: MP4, JPG, FLV, H.263, H.264, PNG, RMBV, BMP and GIF. Moreover, the device features languages such as: Arabic(Egypt), Arabic (Israel), Czech, Bulgarian, Catalan, Danish, Bokmål, Dutch, English, French, Croatian, Finnish, Spanish, German, Greek, Hebrew, Polish, Indonesian, Hindi, Vietnamese, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Thai, Tagalog, Turkish, Serbian, Ukrainian and Chinese.
Once we asked around on the product’s online fanbase, we could use it for the following: read Kindle books, read .pdf books, check e-mail, play games, listen to music, login to the Facebook application and much more.
The review conclusion is that, if you really want something that is interesting, the latest 7 inch iRobot APad iPed Epad is a unique gadget which offers an array of features, all at a very attractive price.
